This week on Perfecto Black Radio I am delighted to welcome a very close friend of mine, Glasgow based Anna Gram, to the decks. With over a decade of experience behind the decks Anna brings us a truly magical, unique mix, as only Anna can. The mix is particularly meaningful to Anna, and people all over the world, being inspired by truly tragic recent life events. In Anna's own words;

Hey I’m Anna. I’ve been playing other people’s records for around 15 years now. I guess I’m like a bag of musical pick n’ mix, usually playing a wide range of genres during my sets. I’ve been lucky enough to DJ in a multitude of locations across Planet Earth; clubs, bars, boats, a castle, a disco bus ball pit, during a zombie apocalypse, and even on the Nevada desert. But enough about me, let’s talk about this mix and what inspired me to record it.

So far 2016 has, at times, felt like a bubbling pot of hatred and anger ready to overflow. As a member of the LGBT community I felt extremely affected by the recent shootings in Orlando. It happened in a gay nightclub, our hallowed ground, a place where we should feel safe. I recorded what I hope is a beautiful and uplifting mix that will bring some light back to those who listen and are feeling the same way as me. It’s important to remind ourselves that love will prevail. Love will set you free. Love wins. Love is love…..LOVE BEATS HATE x

The 44th release on Darin Epsilon’s Perspectives Digital sees the exciting debut of Phil Martyn on the label.  The Manchester based talent is already a familiar name for many in the industry with his involvement behind the scenes as Paul Oakenfold’s A&R for Perfecto.  He also hosts the monthly Perfecto Black radio show which invites the biggest names in the scene as guests on the program. 

Phil has been rapidly gaining recognition under his Philthy Chit alias with releases on Perfecto, Black Hole, and Bonzai Progressive.  His two new productions titled ‘Midnight’ and ‘Come On’ showcase his versatility and love for deeper progressive sounds.  No doubt great things are in store for this promising young artist. 

Few names could be a better choice to remix Phil than his idol Petar Dundov.  The Croatian producer is amongst the brightest stars in the industry, consistently producing quality electronic music for the past 20 years.  Following a powerful remix of ‘Outliers’ by Darin Epsilon & Cid Inc last year, Petar brings a sophisticated edge to ‘Midnight’ with complex melodies and slow-burning, hypnotic progressions. 

Kastis Torrau is one of our regular names here on Perspectives.  His remix of ‘Come On’ might just be his best production on the label to date.  The Lithuanian producer delivers yet another bullseye, transforming the original with his trademark deep and moody vibes.  The dancefloor is sure to experience an emotional moment or two at the hands of this expert.

Samuel Kindermann (Einmusik)has a unique ability to create intelligent house music. His productions cross all genres of house music and it is impossible to label his style. He seamlessly combines beautiful almost trance like melodies with incredible basslines, often reminiscent of acid house. I've just returned from an exhausting 5 city tour of South America!  All the shows were absolutely incredible and the best part of all was I got to meet some of you listeners at my gigs.  Today's mix is really special because it's recorded live from Carl Cox's Playground stage at Burning Man.  It was my first time ever attending and I can honestly say that I've never experienced anything quite like it!

Then in hour two I welcome Phil Martyn for his first appearance on the program.  He's already a familiar name in the industry working behind the scenes as Paul Oakenfold's A&R for Perfecto Black.  He previously received a lot of attention under his Philthy Chit alias with a long list of supporters that included Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Paul Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk, Danny Tenaglia, Max Graham, amongst many others.  More recently he's adopted the Phil Martyn name as a way to showcase his diversity and love for deeper progressive sounds.

The 47th release on Darin Epsilon’s Perspectives Digital features the Quivver and Einmusik remixes of Phil Martyn’s tracks 'Midnight' and 'Come On'.  Phil’s original mixes, along with the Petar Dundov and Kastis Torrau remixes, made for an impactful debut in 2016 and received massive support from industry leaders such as Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Danny Tenaglia, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, John 00 Fleming, Nicole Moudaber, Robert Babicz, Solomun, and many more.  The label storms into 2017 with this dynamic collection showcasing the unparalleled sounds of two legendary artists. 

Back for his second appearance on Perspectives is John Graham aka Quivver.  The UK talent has been producing since the early 1990’s under several aliases and has countless releases on top labels including Bedrock, Toolroom, microCastle, Sudbeat, and Yoshitoshi.  John has always gained consistent support from DJ giants and close friends such as Sasha, John Digweed, Pete Tong, and Paul Oakenfold.  His remix of ‘Come On’ is sure to get the dancefloor moving with its pumping percussion and deep but robust melody. 

Berlin based artist Samuel Kindermann, better known as Einmusik, makes his highly anticipated label debut with a remix of 'Midnight'.  For over ten years, he has been releasing top quality tracks on Diynamic, Suara, Kittball, Noir Music, Katermukke, and his very own Einmusika Recordings.  He is a welcomed addition and perfect fit for Perspectives with his signature deep melodies and library of distinguished sounds. Einmusik’s interpretation provides an elevating bubbly melody supported by hypnotic percussion and airy chords.

Hitting the Proton Music catalogues in July 2017, Andre Sobota's "Unmute" EP told a familiar tale of superlative melodic arrangement and dynamic rhythmic interplay. Returning to the EP remixes from Lithuania and the UK create a new musical direction.

Latvian pair, Blood Groove and Kikis are iconic figures within the underground dance fraternity. Stalwarts of the progressive house and trance scene, their music has cut across boundaries with ease. Both renowned DJs in their own rights, the duo came together in 2006 to perform live before later moving into the studio. A decade later and Blood Groove and Kikis are still at the vanguard of the scene with almost 500 production credits to their name. The best-selling full-length "Wonderland" album for Silk Music was a notable highlight in March 2014 with a sold-out CD run, while further original and remix material has gone on to feature on Nueva, Pineapple Digital and a century of credits for Spring Tube. Their work supported by Above and Beyond, Max Graham, and Ruben de Ronde, a clutch of remixes has found their way onto Particles reworking GMJ, Nikko.Z and East Café. Now returning to the label the Blood Groove and Kikis remix of "Departure" is characterised by a wonderfully deep groove and hypnotic percussive flow that opens up for a rippling arpeggio sequence to coruscate across the opening minutes. Revealing Andre Sobota's motifs in teasing fashion, a vast array of additional production material comes together to create a deep and contemplative affair that highlight the Latvian's production prowess.

Andy MacDougall and Hilton Caswell have consistently found themselves allied to the dance industry's finest imprints under their Trilucid production name. Hitting the heights with the "Endless Moment/Twist" EP for Darin Epsilon's Perspectives Digital in August 2017, a remix from Martin Roth completed the package, while a clutch of releases for Black Hole, Coldharbour and Paul Oakenfold's Perfecto, illustrates the duo's 24-carat credentials. UK based Phil Martyn can boast a similarly impressive career with his work for the same quartet of imprints. A debut remixing Derek Howell and Peter Martin for Perfecto Black was a taste of things to come, as was the "Midnight/Come On" EP for Perspectives Digital in autumn 2016. Joining forces with Trilucid for the first time in March 2017 on "Elements" for Perfecto Black, "Industry" and "Cawewa" for Glasgow Underground and Zerothree, highlighted combined credentials. Reworking the title track, the Trilucid and Phil Martyn remix of "Unmute" hits hard with a thumping bass sequence that echoes Sobota's original while bringing it forward – front and centre in the mix. A collage of original production material can be heard throughout as a glorious, stripped back breakdown is certain to be a favourite in global clubs. Intelligently weaving rhythm and melody into a striking new partnership, Trilucid and Phil Martyn have created a spectacular new interpretation.

Remixing Andre Sobota in such accomplished manner, Blood Groove and Kikis, Trilucid and Phil Martyn have discovered that "Unmute" is still full of blissful sound.

Planet Perfecto Guest Mix (FREE DOWNLOAD)

Returning to the label after a spring hiatus, "Summer Particles 2018" makes a triumphant return with nine tracks of sonic delight from across the UK, Europe, North and South America.

Following on from his recent remix of Dio S, Kynan Cosma opens with a typically impressive melodic affair with a strong percussive groove creating the perfect vehicle for a muted central motif to run through "Condominium" while counterpoint motifs wax and wane before emerging fully in the third movement. Continuing, a storming running bassline runs through Trilucid and Phil Martyn's "Gone" in true Moroder-esque fashion. Rhodes chops cut through the mix in easy fashion while a haunting sequence provides further depth and melodic joy. The intriguingly titled, "In the End" finds Austin Martin deliver a compelling track with emotive bassline progression coupled with rich melodic overtones that fit like a glove. Phrases entwine around each other as cello-like strings deliver depth and harmonic texture.

Saint Petersburg resident, Bondarev, debuts with the brooding tones of his "Underworld". Sultry rhythms and pulsating pads create an eerie and menacing texture combined with distorted bass guitar motif that plays a central role. The deep, pulsating sound of Izzet's "Timer Set" continues with a sumptuous and hypnotic groove that revels in extended delays and throbbing bassline pattern. Building in tension after a melodic pause for breath at the breakdown, the result is an underground progressive gem. Sitting alongside, the laid-back groove and warm melodic flow of Dynacom's "Golden Princess" is full of Latin flair as the Argentine weaves a magical path redolent in twinkling lead and female vocal phrasing. 

Hitting the Particles headlines with his "Cura Brochero" EP in 2017, Robin Thurston returns with a typically warm "Sausalito Sunset". A strong rhythm and bass groove provide a framework for a series of mesmerising melodic sequences to play out while a coruscating chord progression retains listener interest. The faster techno leanings of long-time Proton friend and US producer, Nick Stoynoff, delight with pounding beat and machine-gun fire percussion, coupled with beautiful and hypnotic melodic sequences that reach a rousing crescendo at the midpoint before the huge kick drops in the final movement. 

Closing the album, the driving, rhythmic sounds of Artem Kalalb are "Restarted", keeping energy high and evolving through an array of spot effects drenched in reverb and delays, while a haunting motif provides a moment of earworm magic. 

Nine new tracks from an ever-growing roster supply a collection of brightly lit jewels in "Summer Particles 2018".
