Not the closest/best recording of a Scops Owl but I spent a few days trying to locate it and was best I could get, unfortunately couldn't find where it was perched.

Pharoah Ant Stridulations

Recorded on the island of Kos, during a rather windy summer. Recording conditions weren't great but was quite cool to see and hear this bird up close, and also saw their nesting site, which was protected by a fence so I didn't place the mics there. This recording was made in the salt flats where, once a year during winter the flamingos arrive. Sadly no flamingos, but many other species that made it worthwhile. This was recorded early morning just around sunrise; where I left the mics ready to record from the morning based on where I saw them flying the previous night. Some say it's best to see them also as the sunrises because the sun reflects off their feathers bringing the best out of their unique colours.

European Bee-Eaters, Kos, Greece

According to the sound approach brilliant online reference about Tawny Owls; some of the calls in this Tawny Owl, on a late summer evening is 'pulsed hooting'. Mixed in with the usual hooting we come to expect from them. For sure I will be returning to this spot as summer turns to autumn and the owls start to become more active.

Recording made at 900m as the sunrises, with Red Crossbills, Eurasian Jay and Greater Spotted Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker. The distant sound of chainsaws as they are logging for pine.

4 Roe Deer, with one of them barking. I watched the Roe Deer watch me for a bit, and then they carried on their way into the forest. Recorded around 5:55am with parabolic reflector.

Sunrise at 5:30 - the sun eventually cast an orange glow over the sky and lake. You can hear the splashing of fish as they catch insects from the surface. The gulls are taking advantage of this and catching them. There was 3 Gulls present here, you can hear them flying about over the water as well as at one point them catching a fish and a short fight over it. Being there and seeing all this activity really transforms field recording for me and I do less and less long form, unattended recording unless necessary.

Huge rocks rolling down a river during a period of flooding. Usually this river is about ankle deep...during this recording it was about 6ft and moving fast.
