With a little delay, we are finally able to present a special podcast to you today, which absolutely deserves the title timeless. But first things first. We're talking about Phil Wee, a wanderer between genre with a love of detail. Disharmonies, genre boundaries and tracks that can't be mixed together are not part of his vocabulary. It is not without reason that he is a member of https://soundcloud.com/kol-la-te-ral , which regularly releases mixes that you'll find nowhere else. Be sure to check it out if you haven't already. 

In today's mix, Phil takes us on a relaxed and varied journey through the genres of electronic music. The mix is structured in an exemplary way and there is a lot to discover. You just have to get involved. That's a good thing, because in today's chaotic times, a little bit of calming down and focusing on the inner side of ourselves is just what we need. So let's dive into music!

How this mix came about and what his thoughts behind it are, she reveals to us as usual in our short interview:

[ °°INTERVIEW°° ]

✔️ What are your musical influences? What is your musical background?

I started playing bass in a crust/grindcore band in the mid 90s at the request of a good friend, without ever having picked up a bass before. 
In the early 2000s, things calmed down with post-punk and alternative and we started mixing handmade band sound with electronica with friends. This brought together different styles such as indie, dub, break beats and drum and bass/jungle. Above all, jamming live gave me a deeper understanding of musical moods with repetitive sounds and beats. And the desire for new musical styles. The main entry points were the then Radio Multikulti from RBB and WDR5 Radio Funkhaus Europa (now COSMO)... and then more and more the Internet. In the mid-2000s, I started DJing in order to get all my impressions out in a mix. I really like these energising moments in tracks, when you somehow can't understand it with your head, but it still carries you on euphorically.


✔️ In your opinion, what is the perfect afterhour for you? 

A nice, relaxed atmosphere, places to chill... the party stressers have already left, and those who are there are full of the evening and in agreement with their own consumption, in the fading afterglow... peaceful and fulfilled.

✔️ What thoughts would you like to share with us about your mix?

For three years now, one global crisis has followed another and since the brutal terrorist attack by Hamas on Israeli and foreign civilians, the internet has been overflowing with fake news and open hatred. And many DJs/people from the dance scenes are also taking part. I think it's important to switch off, take a deep breath and check your own reactions. And conscientious fact checking and no pathetic fake news. The mix invites you to slow down. So let's dive into music!

✔️ With recordings of gigs: How did you feel about gigs in general?

Usually much more euphoric in real time than when listening back. Sometimes I don't care about small mistakes, sometimes I can't listen to a mix afterwards, let alone put it out. I'm generally pretty self-critical.

Smash the Rabbit Hole - Against Antisemitic Conspiracy Theories in Club Culture

In the depths of the digital rabbit hole, antisemitic conspiracy theories and disinformation are spreading rapidly, and club culture has not been spared. On 7 October 2023, Hamas committed the largest antisemitic massacre since the Shoah in Israel, murdering 1,200 innocent people, including hundreds of Nova Festival visitors. Many in the club scene remained silent, showing no solidarity with the victims—or worse, propagate anti-Israeli and antisemitic content. Artists who have not been sharing political content in the past, are now adopting one-sided, supposedly pro-Palestinian narratives that often contain antisemitic patterns. These narratives portray Israel as a colonial aggressor, reinforcing radicalisation and leading to the general condemnation of Jewish identities and Zionism. This ideology masquerades as anti-colonial and emancipatory, while in reality, it trivializes and partly glorifies antisemitism.

Furthermore, BDS-related voices in the international and German club scene are calling for a boycott of cultural venues such as Berghain, HÖR Berlin, Conne Island Leipzig, and others, for addressing antisemitism. These calls for boycotts, labeled as an “expression of solidarity with Palestine,” threaten important spaces of cultural exchange financially and damage their reputation. Instead of focusing on mutual understanding, they harden the fronts between “pro-Palestinian” and “pro-Israeli” positions and divide the scene.

So consider asking yourself: what about the artists that I follow? It's a black hole. Hard-won, rather leftist “principles” against antisemitism are being fundamentally questioned. People think that's progressive. Jewish people are incoherently placed under general suspicion, and Zionism, the right to a self-determined Jewish life in the ancestral homeland, is labeled as new fascism.

This mixtape sends a clear signal against these developments. It is a call to question antisemitic narratives, protect free spaces, and fight hate and disinformation. Smash the rabbit hole.

In a way, dance floors are free places. Music connects and builds bridges, beyond origin and language. Everyone is welcome as long as they respect each other.

Anti-Semitism, racism, sexism and other discriminatory oppressions are globally still on the rise and in their worst forms they are deadly. Ideologically brainwashed people believe in hate, and in the end in their 'right' to kill others to save their 'people'. This is violent horror for every free being. We need to STOP this. We as artists need to take a stand, every day, and to say 'NO' loud and clear wherever necessary.
Mostly we stay in our parallel universes of music, community, dance, sex, party and whatever...
But this is very real, and we have a lot of power to be heard and to be seen. Use it. Step out. Decolonize!
This mix goes to those who came, whether they were oppressors or oppressed.
