The first in a series of FREE EPs released from Glasgow-based charity collective, Philanthrobeats, features four very talented artists we are fortunate enough to know. Coming from a mixture of Philanthrobeats residents and collaborators each track holds its own unique style, and yet they gel perfectly to form an EP debute that we are thrilled to release.

EP | 01 is totally free to download. However, there is an option to donate, entirely at your will. All proceeds from this EP will go entirely towards a collaborative project we are organising with the World Spirit Forum Theatre - a theatre group who work with asylum seekers and refugees to perform interactive plays in schools and at events, educating people about the problems that many vulnerable people face, including health-care issues, destitution and deportation.

We are really excited to finally release the second instalment of Philanthrobeats' EP series. This time round we have invited three producers from outwith our resident pool, and the result has been awesome: a three-track mixture of trippy, ethereal sounds - sometimes disjointed - that brilliantly compliment the hazy (and uncommonly hot) Scottish summer we've been lucky enough to have this year. Let this EP's sounds warm your soul as the sun takes a bow and makes way for a wet and windy winter.

This EP, as per usual, is totally FREE to listen to and download. However, we are always accepting donations towards our projects at Philanthrobeats, so any generosity - big or small - would be greatly appreciated.

MermaidS (and the associated DJ due Mount Heart Attack) have been regular fixtures of Philanthrobeats' music choice since our humble beginnings. We are delighted to include 'La Beurre' one of their slow but warm and buttery creations in this EP release.

Continually active since 2007, Mr Tuner is now a stalwart of the Glasgow music scene, and has DJed, produced and promoted events under an ever-growing array of aliases. His latest project is called Handpicked and boasts a collection of Cassette-Only releases, drawing from the untapped hip-hop talent of his local peers, and those from much further afield. His contribution, aptly named 'Money', is a bassy and slightly stoned tribute to a 2005 release we all recognise and love (to hate?).

Also on this release, we welcome Comrade Massie, yet another producer with many aliases under his belt. This glitchy and disjointed LA-beat inspired production is one of those tracks that totally works because it doesn't seem like it should work at all. Perfect.

Our newest EP boasts a fine line-up of contributors who've made our newest experimental release a reality. 

In our fifth edition of our EP series, we have brought to you:

- Moth's track 'Fernery' which makes use of manipulated piano recordings, electrical noise and melted tape to create a surreal soundscape like an old IBM computer melting in the summer sun inside a glass house filled with ferns; 

- the psychedelic adventure in the colourful landscape of 'Vongo Dury' is a mish-mash of improvised, one-take recordings courtesy of 3-piece psychonautic instrumentalists, Fractal Attack Mollusc. 'Vongo Dury' itself is eclipsed only by the 'Subaquatic Coneripper dub' version that comes with it's own warning (watch the volume, protect your speakers!);

- DJ Speedbump's fusion of Chicago ghetto, Juke, broken beats and tempo that makes for a taxi ride going 60 past a 'twentys plenty' sign in 'Youuuu' and 'Lovely Drunk YO'; 

- and Aidrian Novion's 'Ulagadale' which is a synthesised polyrhythmic delight: a product of a series of web-based DAWs and apps that makes use of vintage sounding samples.
