In the summer of 2018, Phil Circle bought a new guitar, a nice high end Ibanez Baritone Acoustic Cutaway. What's unusual about this, is that Circle never just buys instruments. He has to have a utilitarian use for it. In this case, however, it was in order to explore new creative ideas with this lower scale instrument. Its rich tones and voluminous low end lent themselves to Circle's natural baritone vocal range. This and the slightly different approach to playing these heavier gauge strings led Circle into new musical territory.
In January of 2019, Phil called his friend Ted Wulfers in L.A. and told him about five songs he was working on with his baritone guitar. Ted suggested coming to out to his studio to record "a love letter to your baritone guitar."
Between March 3rd and 8th of 2019, with Phil Circle on guitars and vocals and Ted Wulfers on everything else, this 23-minute story of Phil Circle originals was recorded at 663 Sound in Los Angeles. While the songs are meant to tell a story when heard in order, each also stands alone. On Wulfers' recommendation and because a vinyl release is planned, two tracks were also released as "tape" or analog mixes.
This EP marks the 25th anniversary of Phil Circle's debut EP.
