[written as a duet performed as solo] I spent six months working in El Paso Texas a few years ago. I was single and alone and living in an RV park and mostly worked on music in my spare time.  I was as free as I ever was then.  Anyway, I wrote this song called "IF."    It's another silly love song.   It's fun, it may sound like a duet because it was written that way but performed here not so much. There is more than one way to look at this song.

I met Maggie at a family reunion about ten years ago.  Maggie had brought her base fiddle to the reunion and some other instruments to play and sing some devotional songs.  I got a chance to talk to her later in the day.  Maggie began telling me about her husband and these great things about him and what kind of guy he was.  He was a firefighter. Later someone told me that he had passed away from cancer about five years before and she never remarried.  Maggie talked about Tommy as though he were there somewhere at the reunion.



The 5th of June fifty five years ago

Tommy got his first good job and

December 18, 2019 Fort Worth.  Sweet Misery is a song I've covered for quite a while.  My family and I have sung this song so many times.  I never had a chance to meet Hoyt Axton but I was in a bar in Montana a few years ago that Hoyt had been in. An old fellow who had met him told me a colorful story about Hoyt.

It's funny how the news gets around.  This song is part of the Texas album and was a last-minute inclusion at the recommendation of John Brammer - who reminded me that it was one of the ones we used to sing.   Thanks, John.

Talk of the Town

The Angel fixer was originally recorded outside one morning as a video; You could hear the early morning birds in the background. In Preparation for the upcoming Texas album The Angel has been re-recorded with focus on the audio.  However because the original Youtube video captured some birds singing in the background, the birds have been re-included.  I hope you like it.
