We Are The Brave front man Alan Fitzpatrick provides the labels next release with a typically incendiary two-tracker. Delving deep into his record collection for inspiration, the result is a brace of distinct, ear-catching cuts that tip a hat to by-gone times in rave culture and have returned big reactions from contemporary crowds all summer. 

The aptly titled “They All Called ‘Em Garys” combines droning hardcore hoovers and power piano with Fitzpatrick’s trademark heavy tech funk. While “Rhino” adopts a slung-back groove of resounding bass and tense pads overlaid with a knockout melody that bubbles away before unleashing its full chord progression through an unashamedly epic breakdown.

1) Tell us a bit about yourself and your record collection.

Best known as one-half of soul duo Myron & E, Newark native Eric ‘E’ Cooke aka Eric Boss or E Da Boss is the definition of a multifaceted artist. It began with DJing and a love of hip-hop, which eventually turned into producing, and ultimately brought him to singing and songwriting both alongside Myron and on his own.
Eric got his first taste of music by playing records during family card games and fish frys. As a teen, he began collecting records of his own and DJing, hanging out at the Music Factory and Rock and Soul in New York City. After relocating to southwest Virginia, he graduated high school and began DJing parties, which allowed him to invest in an Ensoniq ASR-10 keyboard, two Technics turntables and an eight-track recorder. He later moved to San Francisco where he met Myron Glasper while on the road with the Bay Area’s Blackalicious, and shortly after Eric released an independent record as a producer under the name E da Boss.
While touring in Finland for his solo project, Eric found himself in an impromptu jam session with members of The Soul Investigators, whose work with singer Nicole Willishelped define them as one of Europe’s foremost retro-soul bands. Investigators producer Didier Selin was impressed enough to leave Eric with several unfinished tracks. Back in the U.S., E recruited Myron as a singing and songwriting partner, and Myron & E was born. Together, Myron & E released a string of successful 45 singles on The Investigators‘ label Timmion Records, and then went on to release their debut album “Broadway” on renowned label Stones Throw.
Since then Myron & E have toured the world and recently released a 45 with Russian funk band The Soul Surfers on Ubiquity Records, in the meantime Eric has contributed vocals to a track for UK sensation The Gene Dudley Group‘s sophomore album on Wah Wah 45s, as well as releasing material under the moniker Lucid Paradise alongside Ishtar on The Whole Truth Records and a few 45s as part of The Pendletons on his own independent label Slept On Records.
With a new collaboration underway with German heavyweight funk label Mocambo Records, it’s an exciting time for fans of Eric Boss‘ music, as it appears new sounds are on the horizon, starting with a limited edition 45…stay tuned!

2) 45/7 is all about celebrating the 7". Can you tell us a bit about what you love about the format.

I have loved 45's my whole life!!  But . . . . . Around the late 90's I was djing a lot & didn't have a car so I started to collect more 45's because they were just easier to carry around to gigs.  My friends in SF used to laugh because I would show up with a box of 45's I carried around in a Chinese take out bag.
 
3) One hour of vinyl goodness... can you talk us through your selection for your 45/7 mix?

It's a bit like myself, records I have collected from all around the world!  and some things I have test press copies & exclusive dub plates. All over the place at one time but it makes sence.
