Sebastian Grätz, based in Hamburg, Germany, and known professionally as Basso, is the man behind Growing Bin Records.
Growing Bin was set up in 2007 as a music blog before evolving into an online record store in 2012, with the offshoot micro-label Growing Bin Records launching the following year. The blog initially existed to catalogue Basso's broad musical tastes, today Growing Bin is very much in the business of selling records; From the ultra-rare and special interests to generally curious finds.

A core appeal of Growing Bin is that the material is handpicked according to, and solely for one man's esoteric tastes. There is no chasing of trends; If Basso likes it, he'll sell it. Another of the shop's unique traits is its copywriting; Growing Bin's website is a marvel with musical categories including Cocktails By The Pool, Cheap Magic and Dancing For Mental Health, breaking down into subcategories such as Embarrassing Mindblowingness, Never Leave The Bag and many more.

Anyway, over to the mix. As expected, Basso has delivered a wonderfully eclectic selection of records. 
We'd like to mention a few of his inclusions; 'La Bimini' by Spunk, a breezy P-funk monster if ever there was one, off their 1981 LP Tighten It Up, tight as f**k indeed! Remaining in Jazz-funk territory, Underground Canopy & Paloma Paloma's deep and soulful 'Même Heure Même Endroit', B-side of a 7" single from 2023, is just sublime. The HaHa Sounds Collective version of Marker Starling's 'Silk Rock', as championed by Gilles Peterson on his Worldwide FM radio show, is an absolutely stellar piece of music and arguably one of the strongest releases of 2020. Taken from her 1976 LP Più, Ornella Vanoni's moody 'Tu Chi Sei?' (underscored by a beat suspiciously reminiscent of a certain Paul Simon record) is another timeless inclusion here.

Okay, this UV Funk show is totally not-to-be-missed material. It is dedicated to the hidden treasures from former Yugoslavia. Due to the Western-centric coverage of pop music’s history it is easy to miss some of this awesome music that ranges from obscure Boogie records to cosmic synth epics. To unearth these beauties via their @discom-1 label is the purpose of Belgrade-based music aficionados Luka Novakovic and Vanja Todorovic. After putting out the re-release of Boban Petrovic “Zora”-LP under the now-defunkt Disco not Disco imprint, Luka and Vanja started Discom. So far, they’ve released four LPs, among them an excellent compilation called “Yugoslavian Space Program” that brought together synth and Kraut masterpieces from a time period spanning the years between 1981 and 2015. Only recently they released the album “Sidarta” from the experimental/ jazz fusion collective 37°C. 

But if you listen to this mix they’ve put together for UV Funk it seems as if these releases were just the tip of the iceberg. Happy digging!

Philipp Demankowski from Dresden has never understood why so many DJs tend to use just one genre to make people dance. Since even the most innovative music is a melting pot of all of its influences in the end, an atmospheric DJ set can be diverse too. This approach is not only important for his mixes but also in Philipp’s radio show UV Funk on Dresden based community radio station coloRadio. Also, he's one of the heads behind Uncanny Valley and its sub labels Rat Life and shtum.

Everything started in 2006 as part of the DJ team The Moroders and with their wild Cosmic Dancer parties which were the first opportunity for Dresden’s Disco and House heads to see artists like Todd Terje, Tensnake, Mr Raoul K or Runaway. Club series like Still Going, an afterhour tribute to the sun, as well as the underground club night Sweat Box followed. Recently he established a Sunday dance called Balearic Sunday which turned out to be an awesome sunny party for everybody loving eclectic DJ-sets. Also, Philipp has played festivals like Nachtdigital and Melt! and most probably in one of your favorite clubs next door.
