~ ‘’Profonda Oscurità’’ in English ''Deep Darkness'' was conceived in a difficult year of pandemic where moods of discouragement, bewilderment but also hope were the order of the day.
The EP contains 6 ambient drone tracks influenced by the emotions and sensations of the artist who wanted to express his mood through dark and deep atmospheres by recreating mystical soundscapes.
In this release XIV Orchestral wants to tell a story made of personal moments that don't find a happy ending but that for better or for worse cannot be forgotten...
They have been used Korg ms-20 mini and Elektron Analog Four for most of the low frequencies, Massive VST for atmospheres and noise textures, some field recordings from Zoom h4n.
Main fx plugins: Valhalla VintageVerb, FreqEcho and Tal Chorus Lx.

The name of the album plays with on words and meanings. The correlation between an angel and an angle seems to be external , but the gap between them is not bigger than the difference between a wave and a particle in quantum mechanics.
It is known that the phase angle is the angle between the light falling on the observed object and the light reflected from the object, received by the observer. The origin of this light is a matter of speculation or belief, as well as the origin of human consciousness.

The "Phase Angel" is a metaphorical figure, responsible for the relation between intension and current, fall and reflection, movement and observation. 
This album is a story about the path and the search for meaning. What is the nature of consciousness? Are all our properties and actions spelled out by a global program code? Is our world virtual, by the way? May we be biorobots? Being confused by these questions, the mind continues its expansion, simultaneously with the whole universe, listening carefully to the stars with such a romantic longing as if it is the longing for homesickness. 
The album can definitely be called optimistic and equally disturbing, as we are at the same time, filled with both hope and uncertainty in the experiments of quantum physics.
These ideas were very delicately felt by a talented media artist Mike Iv . It is difficult to imagine a more accurate, relevant and excellent implementation of them than his video to one of the tracks of the album.
As for sound, the flesh of the album is, of course, phase shifts, multi-layered rhythms, an iron choir of electrical devices, their songs, their noise distortions under my close observation. )

a quick test of the nlc dp filter (headphones recommended):

a bunch of chopped up noodles from a doepfer system stuck inside a squid salmple, the mix of which is randomly addressed, reduced, and crushed, then sent to the dpf, and plays alongside a main sine noodle from an a-143-9. the diode half of the dpf has a high-ish q setting (which is kinda tame compared to other filters) and a low cut off, and later is modulated by a low rate of digital noise from the a-117 and a sine lfo from a second a-143-9. the transistor side (which has no input and is internally fed by the diode side via photo-couplers) has a maxed out q  and an even lower cut off, and its cv2 is randomly assigned the 2 oscillators section from the a-117 808 source via a switch, which gives it that wild feedback sound. the output of the dpf is monitored from the sum output, and a tiny bit of reverb is added in ableton.

this filter is very  touchy, and depending on how its built, can have a very narrow range on control (as mine does,) and the transistor ladder only really gets fired up if the diode ladder is hot enough (mine uses MCT9001 photo-couplers,) so you can get all these really interesting 'edge of breakup' sounds, to use the dirt-pedal/guitar amp parlance of the day...and its quite nice if you can dial it in, but it does takes some patience.

it also gets *real* bonkers when you start swapping the q path and monitoring different outputs...but i haven't really figured out how to bend any of that to my will yet...
