Track number two, was originally composed during summer 2013, when we were inspired by surrealistic paintings. The idea to write conceptual album as soundtrack to our favourite surrealistic paintings was then scrapped and two tracks from the "album" ended on this EP.

The second track from the concept or surreal paintings album and its number four on EP. This contain some orchestral parts which were composed during summer 2013 as an experiment with new DAW synthesisers and loop machines, we liked the result so it finally got as an interlude to the electronic track.

DJ Steve Jarre created - A 2001 Space Odyssey Mini Mix, back in 2001 using just 2 old Pioneer CDJ500-MK1 players to mix and layer samples of various early Jarre tracks. 13 years have since passed and the music in this mix is still ahead of its time. The mix also features the Vizitors from their 2001 Rendez-Vous in Space - Tokyo 1-1-2001 Okinawa concert., Feat Francis Rimbert, Tetsuya "TK" Komuro and writer Arthur C. Clarke to celebrate the beginning of the 21st century.

Mixed Live to Sony DAT, To CDR, To FLAC, with all mini mistakes from players etc.

Michael Vater, better known in music circles as Phonique, has carved out a rich niche for himself in the crowded world of electronic music. Widely regarded as one of the nicest guys in the scene, Vater has come a long way from his humble beginnings in Cologne, fully establishing himself as both a father of the Berlin club scene and a much loved ambassador for house and electronic music all around the world. With way over 100 releases and his own boutique house label Ladies & Gentlemen, Phonique has taken his signature grooves all over the world - more than 50 countries at last count. 

With countless production and remix credits plus three full albums under his belt, 'Saudade (Best Of Phonique)' is a timely reminder of what makes this artist such a treasure. With so much material to get through it's a wonder he managed to keep it to 11 tracks. 

Long time collaborator Erlend Øye features twice as a guest vocalist - 'For the Time Being' and 'Casualties' both being essential reference points in Phonique's back catalogue. Originally released in 2005, 'For the Time Being' could be the blueprint for many of today's nu-disco producers, while Antonio Eudi and Bruno Be's Remix of 'Casualties' shares a similar, lush and rolling groove - both are classic Vater - melancholic and uplifting at the same time. 

Another landmark collaboration in Vater's discography was with Ian Whitelaw, whose sublime vocals feature on 'Our Time Our Chance' and 'You That I'm With'. Originally released on Phonique's first album 'Identification' in 2004, 'You That I'm With' is a gorgeous slice of electronic synth pop, while 'Our Time Our Chance' from 2010 is more focused on the deeper reaches of the dance floor, and was widely regarded as one of the tracks of that year. 

Elsewhere on 'Saudade', (Portuguese for a brooding kind of melancholy, and a suitable description of Vater’s signature sound), Phonique continues to display his passion for collaboration with talented vocalists. 'One Step 2010' and 'Feel What You Want' highlight the divine sound of Rebecca while 'Endless Love' showcases Louie Austen - whose 'Glamour Girl' is also included via Phonique's Original Version. His deft touch for creating affecting and beautiful electronic pop music with strong links to the dance floor is fully in evidence on every track, and non more so than his rework of 'Ornette's Crazy' - a huge hit in 2012 on Get Physical that still sounds as thrilling today as it did the day of release. 

Probably the most straight up dance floor track here is 'Divertimento' - a deep burner with slight Latin swing to it - no doubt a result of Phonique's strong links to the underground scene in Brazil.

Affinity

Here's something I did while on my travels in Colombia and Brazil. 

Faze Action are an act I have followed ever since I first fell in love with In The Trees back in the 90s. The Brothers Faze - Robin and Simon - are brilliant musicians, producers and DJs and top gentleman to boot. I am proud to call them both amigos these days. 

This track Magic Touch has been in my bag since I first got sent it...I think it is one of the best original disco tracks I have heard for years. However from the first time I heard the original I had this idea in my head to knock out a 80s style dub version like you always used to get on the flip side with short sections of the track and mega delays riding over the top etc. A stripped down affair for El Club. So I am pleased to have pulled it off and delighted that they will be releasing it on vinyl in a month or so.

The Faze Action brothers released their fifth studio album entitled "Body Of One" last year and to continue the celebration they have recruited some heavy weight talents to give their spin on three tracks from that album.
First, the brothers take on the remix duties of "Magic Touch", giving it a dub house reboot that could be the sound track to countless sunsets this summer. Next up is a deft dub mix of the same track by Maxidiscs cohort and globe trotting DJ, Dicky Trisco.
On the flip side we have the Balearic powerhouse that is Phil Mison, remixing "Echoes Of Your Mind" into an electronic, down tempo feast with additional Bass, Guitar and Keyboard played by the man himself.
The final mix on this 12" is provided by "Emotional Response" curator and head honcho Stuart Leath under his Chuggy guise, delivering an organic dub mix of Faze Action's "Floating World"

We are not very keen on using major scales, but we really liked the response to our last year's Tell Me / Separated, so we decided that we can try something new in same direction.

Years ago, we did a remix for Avicii’s Swede Dreams release on Joia, and on that release was also the debut appearance of another remixer, a Swedish duo called Cazzette. So when we started working on a remix of Genius last summer, it was a little bit like closing the circle. Hope you enjoy it!

Disco Despair get set to release a second EP on Youth Control following the hugely successful ”I’m No Good” which took over Hype Machine’s Top 20 as well as infecting crowds around the world, by DJs such as Arches, Cassian, Morcheeba and was included on Toolroom Records compilation. Helsinki based Disco Despair present a 3 track ep ”You Are Girl” featuring Jeremey David and the renowned Swedish singer / songwriter Therese, who previously worked with Stonebridge among many others. 

The title track ”You Are Girl” is a masterful blend of nu-disco topped with vocal work by Jeremey David that brings together soulful, contemporary funk elements. The EP continues with the second track “I Guess You Know”, a more straight forward pop disco piece reminiscent of a joint venture that could’ve been between millennium era French house and Kylie - now brought alive by the astonishing and courageous collaboration between Disco Despair and Therese. Finally, the EP is closed with an instrumental piece “Our Time Has Come” a track drawing its inspiration from the impending dystopia, giving the otherwise uplifting record a clear statement that it has come to a bitter, unavoidable end… depressing moi? Never.

Disco Despair - I Guess You Know (Feat. Therese)

Disco Despair’s most recent ‘You Are Girl’ EP via Youth Control has received high acclaim from the likes of Your EDM, EDM Sauce, Earmilk, Acid Stag, Salacious Sound, TILT Mag, Always Doing Damage, Music Is My Life, and many more. The titular single reached the Top 10 on the Popular Charts of Hype Machine, and was hailed by numerous media outlets as a “masterful blend of nu-disco”.

Now, Disco Despair is set to drop a ‘You Are Girl Remixes’ EP on May 13th with Youth Control. The package includes 3 fresh remixes from respected producers Birdee, KASPERG, as well as Youth Control’s own Smok.

Birdee’s remix is a crunchy, crisp, hip take on “You Are Girl (ft. Jeremy David)” reminiscent of legendary contemporary disco producers like Daft Punk, while Smok’s remix has a more classic, bouncy rhythm underneath Jeremy David’s gorgeous vocals. To top it off, KASPERG’s remix of “I Guess You Know (ft. Therese)” provides a mystic deep house atmosphere for listeners to swim in. This remix EP is truly the full package for any lovers of House music. Play any one of these remixes and the groove gets grooving quickly.

Disco Despair - You Are Girl (feat. Jeremey David) (Smok Remix)

A debut release for both band and label, Parisian duo Paradis' bring two eloquently produced tracks to Beats In Space in the form of the Parfait Tirage b/w La Ballade de Jim 12" (BIS001). Admirers from afar of DJ Tim Sweeney's weekly on air institution of 12 years (from which the label takes its name), Paradis submitted demos hoping they might hack it for some play time. 

Reared on classical and jazz, turned young hip hop rebels, turned teen club crawlers, and then university machine tinkerers, Simon Mï¿½ny & Pierre Rousseau grew out of genre jumping while young enough to stay ahead and settle into music making centered around melody and emotion. 

This touchstone approach is perfectly apparent on "Parfait Tirage", a track built around sublime synth ambiance, a compelling sequence lead, and what will one day be unmistakably recognized as the Paradis vocal sound. The b-side, "La Ballade of Jim", is a deep techno take on beloved French artist Alain Souchon's track from the 80s, and already a staple in Sweeney's live set. 

Each 12" from Beats in Space features original artwork in considerate & serial form. The first 12" features artwork by Bjorn Copeland, a 21st century schizoid collagist and member of NYC experimental music legends Black Dice. The 12" packaging constructed by Will Work For Good features a vinyl BIS logo cling. The 12" will be available on September 20th, 2011 from fine retailers worldwide. The digital version will be available October 4th, 2011 from the drab internet universe.
