Filip Storsveen returns to the Bassiani Podcast following a first stint as half of Omformer, this time as solo act Oprofessionell. The Oslo-based co-founder of rave entente Uteklubb (and constituent imprint UTE.REC) draws a wealth of inspiration from the aesthetic of 90s trance, a fully packaged set of sounds, images and for many of a generation, memories, that enshrine a moment in electronic music with particular resonance today. Cyclical revivals are just that, but there’s something especially felt in the speed-saturated sound that’s taken over not only his native Norway, but neighbouring nordic lands, an acknowledgement of its homegrown forest-rave culture, something parallel to the speed at which the world seems to be tipping into exponential overdrive. Storsveen and collaborators Mikkel Rev and Alpha Tracks are flying that flag high above the parapet. And as a means of escape, it delivers large on warm and fuzzy nostalgia, a method by which the creative spirits of the past are reborn today just when we need them most. From releases on his co-run label to a string of contagious live sets, Oprofessionell’s ambit is widening and the ethos of nordic rave gains ever more traction. Bassiani Podcast 253 is a wink to the past and a plan for the future, a set recorded live at Bassiani, mercurial rhythms that live and breathe the spirit of Oslo and Storsveen’s neo-trance renaissance.

𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗜𝗘𝗥𝗘 | MERSEL - Complementary System [CWR011]

SAMA strikes down with his fifth techno outing on Maximalist_Minimalist since the opening of the label in 2022.

The title track ‘Phoneutria’ is one of SAMA’s most personal techno tracks, created from a desire to awaken people from their hypnosis in a set and to create a highlight, rather than trying to blend in. This semi broken-beat track is by far the most requested track in SAMA’s recent sets, and has been turning heads since the summer of 2023, getting heavy early rotation from Rødhåd and Rene Wise. 

Right after being struck by the opener track’s wall of sound, the beatless ‘A Last Speck Of Light’ creates a soft, cozy space that invites the listener into a state of stillness. ‘A Last Speck Of Light’ doesn’t try to take you anywhere, but is rather a moment suspended. A fragment of time that simply is, asking nothing but presence.

The B-side of MXMN005 is reserved for the more functional tracks, without losing the intricacies of SAMA’s perfectionism. ‘Silence Is For The Elite’ is a modern track with crisp and fun jittery sounddesign, built around a heavy groove. 

The last track of the EP, ‘Tiger Mosquito’, is the most forward-pushing of the four, with a very straight groove and dark, buzzing and almost aggravating textures and atmospherics, hence the name. 

All in all, MXMN005 shows exactly how Maximalist_Minimalist got its name. Tracks ranging from extremely minimalist and intimate to thunderous and filled to the brim with details. Music that doesn’t take itself too serious, and music that absolutely, and proudly, does.  

The artwork, as always, has been painted by Ric Santesteban, showing a new colour palate for the first time in the MXMN series, accompanied by 5 eyes for the fifth and maybe most personal techno release to date for the label.

Radial Records is the self-titled techno imprint from Jeroen Liebregts aka Radial.

The Dutch born artist is now based in Barcelona, and he is Co-Founder of the legendary Audio Assault record label. His music can also be found on the likes of Mord, Token, Mote-Evolver, and Marcel Dettmann Records, as well as having played his distinct sound across Europe in many well-known clubs.

For this DT:Premiere we selected "Reproducer" with a raw, mechanical sound. Swirling effects, crunching claps, and bouncing bass synth licks create a vortex of tension for an unusual yet satisfying analogue groove from an alternate dimension.
