Monkey Steals the Drum - 1st Peel Session with all John Peel speel.
Bought a sweet Technics tape player the other day and can finally play our 1st session that was recorded directly off the radio, true John Peel bootleg style on an old C90. Its sounding magically raw and hissy. I think you can probably find this on the internet somewhere but I've mastered it a bit to try and cheat some of the BBC radio compression and give it a bit more dynamic.

Inducer was a commissioned art installation piece from Glasgow-based artist's Robbie Thomson, Sarah Milne and Jack Wrigley. An old piano, two cellos, eight violins and other instruments come to life with a cacophony of rust and stone, oak and glass, hair and bone towers. Completely automated using 128 relay switches controlled through midi commands from Ableton Live, old junk and brick-a-brack awakens these objects in an unnerving fashion.  

Described as "taking inspiration from psychological anomaly Folie à deux (shared delusional psychosis) Inducer is an immersive animated environment where musicians and sound sculptures merge into the unsettling realms of the unreal".
	
I was asked to get involved due to my experience of miking and recording unorthodox sound sources which of course I jumped at the chance. Its always inspiring working with the artists at 85A, these guys think miles outside the box as well as having a real honesty to the work they produce. 

I ended up using a 16 track mix trying to bring out the tiny sounds and mechanisms that were getting lost in performance area. After a few experiments with microphone placements and types I managed to add another dimension of intricacy to the natural acoustic sound being produced from the sound sculptures on show. Learnt a lot about handling such a large amount of tracks as well as live EQ'ing to allow everything to sit comfortably in the mix.

Sound installation piece dispersed amongst a harrowing exhibition exploring grotesque allusion and the darkened chasms of experience.

Incessant clinking, creaking, tapping, puttering... morbid metallic spaces... resonant intensity never quite attaining climax... disturbing inferred.

A range of sounds from my extensive personal library, selected, processed and arranged to impart an unnearving ambience to this strangest of exhibits.

A 3D spatial audio mix of a project originally designed in stereo. Using 3DCeption spatial audio plugins in ProTools HD. Really enjoying the space that can be achieved and the movement of the winds and spot effects!
