The Octopus Eats Me

I wrote this song in 2004.  When I was writing the song I was thinking about performing something epic at a battle of the bands like you would find at high school. So, this song attempts to capture those thoughts and feelings. I'm quite please with the result considering my guitar is seriously getting old. I've had it for 18 years now and recently rewired it myself. But the old girl delivers on this track.

Keep Me In The Dark - Caitlin Stephen (feat Phillip Hartman)

This is an update of a song I wrote in 2002 when I was 19 years old. Around this time I was finishing high school. I was just about to leave behind my life in my hometown and start a new one in Toronto.  This song is my various thoughts and feelings about this transition. The "moon" in this case is a metaphor for the distance unknown future and the "sun" is my passing youth. 

Nineteen and I'm sitting quiet
Inside I'm crying internal riot
I remember by window waiting,

Through all the twists and turns

There's 4/4, 3/4, 4/3, 5/3, as well as lots of tempo changes.

Phillip Hartman - Mother Machine

I guess what possessed me to do this cover was the poor quality of the original. Really great song, but none no justice by sloppy studio producing. It's a noisy track with peaks and distortion everywhere. That it became a #1 despite these faults is amazing. So I've done my bit to try to improve it.

Not really crazy about this song. The vocals didn't really come together so I made it an instrumental. But there are lyrics! Maybe one day. When I can get a real singer to work with me.

Ahh...where do I start? Wrote this song in 2003. Originally I conceptualized it a three-part song that tells the story of naivety-disillusion-acceptance. So it changes gear quite a lot. I would never write songs like this now, but when you're twenty you have strange ideas. There's a lot of interesting sounds here, so stick around for the whole...omg...8 minutes!! Sorry!
