Organised forms of sound meet substantial, three-dimensional constructs that appeal by themselves and do not require a performer in order to be perceived by its recipients.

This could be an extract of a future wikipedia article on the new project of the STROKE.ARTFAIR. Since STROKE.MUSIC isn't about scientific perceptions, but rather about emotions, sensations and creativity, we prefer to use common language.

The STROKE.ARTFAIR present together with one of Germany's most creative music labels, Project:Mooncircle, STROKE.MUSIC and their very first "Soundtrack for Art". The label from Berlin, which was founded in 2002, represents the essence of the first urban art fair with its unique mix of Hip-Hop. Electronica, Downbeat, Soul and Dubstep. The label seems to be the perfect partner for STROKE.MUSIC; They have a great future ahead.

For STROKE.MUSIC, artists from STROKE.ARTFAIR galleries were asked to choose their personal favourite out of the broad pool of songs and seek inspiration from it. The results of this cooperation will be presented in Munich as part of the STROKE.ARTFAIR (5/26 - 5/29) in a special exhibition. Visitors will be able to listen to the music while looking at the corresponding piece of art. Their impressions will melt together into an audio-visual synthesis of the arts. The STROKE.MUSIC compilation will be available as a free download for the first 1.000 visitors of the art fair. Afterwards, every art and music lover can buy the creation for the price that he or she deems to be right.

Long overdue for a vinyl pressing, Kenny Dope’s extended mix of “Shy As A Butterfly” by The Mighty Sceptres is now available on a proper 7in. The B-side features a killer dance floor-ready cumbia rework of “Nothing Seems To Work Right” by Spark Arrester.

With a well-received debut album under their belt and notable song placements in shows such as Ray Donovan on Showtime,   The Mighty Sceptres drop a new 7in single featuring Kenny Dope’s extended mix of “Shy As A Butterfly”, previously only available as a bonus on their digital album. With collectors, record shops, and fans alike clamoring for a vinyl version, the 7in was hands down the preferred format of choice. Hailing from Blacksburg VA where he’s been a mainstay of the local music scene and purveyor of all things funky, Spark Arrester’s cumbia rework is a perfect fit on the B-side rounding out a single that’s sure to keep bodies moving on the dance floor all summer long and beyond.

This photo is of my grandmother, Robbie Cook, holding my dad. A few weeks back, emotions were high as I was thinking about the violence exhibited towards people of color. This photo represents that combination of emotions for me. Protective. Feeling the need to reaffirm our value and our lives. Holding tightly. Loving harder. 

I play music every day, but I definitely took solace in certain songs, and decided to mix them up and add a few to the list. Some of them uplifted people during the Civil Rights era (The Revolution Will Not Be Televised). Others represent unity (People Everyday). The celebration and the struggle (Sinnerman) of being black in America, and the one thing that pigments our skin: melanin. Open your mind, listen, share, and enjoy.
