As we head towards the month of March there’s earnest debate on various noteworthy music sites about Miami WMC 2012, but there can be no doubt that there will be magical moments that will be talked about for months to come. The Bedrock showcase at Cameo (Thursday 22nd March) featuring John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, Marco Bailey, Omid 16B, Henry Saiz, Denis A and Stelios Vassiloudis, will be an amazing party, as will John Digweed’s extended set at the Bedrock and Creations party on Saturday 24th at The Vagabond in downtown Miami. Bedrock_Underground Sound Of Miami captures the essence of why electronic dance music is such an exciting prospect right now, showcasing the amazing underground talent, both established and new.

Take, Sirenize, the latest project involving Rowan Blades and rising star Dennis White (aka Thermal Bear on Traum). This duo never compromises, always staying true to the underground with a strict artistic ethos & integrity, as opening track, ‘Everybody’, proves.

From ambient soundscapes, downtempo vocal tracks and slo-mo house, through to deliciously deep house, tech-house and acid grooves, the supremely exciting debut artist album from Greece’s Stelios Vassiloudis, “It Is What It Is” on Bedrock, showed the world that variety is the spice of life. So it’s no wonder that Stelios makes two appearances here: flying solo on the inspired ‘West’ and teaming up with sometime collaborator Sasse (aka Klas Lindblad from Finland) on ‘Benedict’. Sasse’s first releases came out on the legendary Sähkö/Puu as Freestyle Man and rightly are considered a milestone in the Scandinavian house sound. His Moodmusic and Sunday Music labels are highly respected worldwide, so his production skills are up there with the best, as ‘Benedict’ shows.

Germany’s Robert Babicz has a music career that already spans nearly two decades, comprising five albums and multiple singles. The mark of a true musical innovator, he continues to reveal his talent and skill as one of Europe's most essential techno producers. His contribution here, ‘Echo From The Past’, is yet another stunning creation from this hero to many. 

Guy J’s brand new track ‘Shining’ (BEDGJDIGI01) and the hot remixes of tracks from his critically acclaimed ‘1000 Words’ album, have been setting floors alight since the start of 2012, so its no surprise that ‘Nightstalker’ is yet another absolute gem. As one of the standout electronic artists in the world today, Guy J is at the forefront of a movement towards the melody-rich and emotionally charged roots of the house music spectrum. 

Canada’s Maher Daniel & Casa (aka Mike Casa) are both upcoming, pivotal figures on the Montreal scene. Daniel’s remix of Tone Depth's 'Rumblefish' (Bedrock) was #1 on Beatport's techno charts for over two and a half months, cementing a relationship with the label that sees ‘Music, Machines & Life’ introducing a very exciting vibe to the proceedings here. A low-slung, heavy hitting tech monster is the order of the day.

Hailing from Brazil, Wehbba is one of the latest additions to Brazil's fine history of innovative techno producers. He made a big impression with his remix of Christian Smith’s ‘Flyertalk’ on John Digweed’s ‘Structures’ album, leading this dentist graduate, licensed diver and Jiu Jitsu fighter to have his debut track, ‘Mammut’ included on ‘Bedrock 12’. Now, with the bouncy percussive beauty of ‘Motone’ he makes an exciting, welcome return. 

If you’re talking about exciting underground producers it would be rude not to mention Igor Tchkotoua and Dan Duncan (aka Pig&Dan), since 1999 their distinctive mixture of influences has given them a sound that is both innovative and easily recognizable. Their Sonic Society label and relationship with Sven Vath’s Cocoon family have led to global respect for this dynamic duo. Teaming up with English ex-pat, Mark Reeve and Malta’s Dean Demanuele has led to a truly international melting pot of hip-swinging, groovy rhythms on ‘Machines’.

Few French electronic music artists combine experience, avant-gardism and guaranteed success on dance floors as Electric Rescue (aka Antoine Husson) does. His distinctive brand of ultra-dynamic techno and sensuality has already proved itself on Bedrock. ‘Dope’ (BEDDIGi13) was a Balearic techno monster, combining the elegance of Detroit attitude to the groove of a big room tune. The highly hypnotic ‘All Access’ with fellow French prodigy, Timid Boy (aka Damien Almira) is equally amazing here.

Catalan producer and DJ Marc Dosem is unquestionably one of the hottest rising stars in the underground electronic dance scene. His bold debut album, “Parallel” (Sino), was released to much critical acclaim in the summer of 2011, further cementing growing respect, having already unleashed massive tunes such as “Silent Drop” and “Beach Kisses”. Dosem’s stunning remix of Henry Saiz ‘La Marea’ (BED100R) was a highlight of 2011. His unrivalled ability to harness glistening melodies, taking listeners on a trip through wondrous realms of emotion, are supreme on ‘How Do You Do It’, a fitting finale to what is an extraordinary collection of the finest underground electronic dance music.

Once again, it’s hats off to Bedrock for raising the bar even higher with this exceptional compilation. In this day and age to not only survive as an independent label, but also to flourish and constantly evolve, bringing forward new and exciting talent, is something that should be applauded.

The infamous Bedrock records is celebrating it’s 12th anniversary today with the release of their customary Bedrock album featuring exclusive tracks and remixes from really big names such as Robert Babicz, Quivver, King Unique, Christian Smith, Nick Warren, John Digweed &amp; Nick Muir. Bedrock is highly regarded for forward-thinking electronic dance music and has enjoyed a very successful year so far with immensely popular releases that ensure it’s reputation remains unblemished.

John Graham aka “Quivver” has two mixes of a track he produced called “Orgazoid” featuring on the album which are both stunning and the double feature on both discs stands as a testament to composition of these mixes and the high regard that Bedrock has for Quivver’s exquisite productions.

Orgazoid (Mix 1) – shows an impressive diversity to the synonymous Quivver sound and is a chunky, complex affair fused with surging bass and shuffling drums based on an insistent rhythm. Its rich bass underpins a repetitive chord riff and eerie string sweeps with the vocal to the fore and warm keys lending it an evocative feeling and robust melodic build up to dance floor madness.

Orgazoid (Mix 2) – more stomping beats with a haunting dub riff and understated male vocal, hissing hi-hats, brooding chords and predatory synth line set an underlying mood of subdued menace. True to his idiosyncratic touch, the arrangement stops for a second and then kicks back in, while the track’s outro gradually slows down. This is techno for the head and feet.

Deeply entrenched with more than 30 years in the music industry, Phil MOONFACE Thompson is transcendent with hope and positivity. Phil’s online catalogue is growing with a stack of MOONFACE releases, not forgetting remixes and DJ compilations and endless online mixes. 

His early exposure to the superstars saw Sasha choosing “U Get So Give” for his legendary Essential Mix 2000 and then Bedrock's John Digweed signing “Futurized Fears” and “Overactive” as a double A side for his then brand new Bedrock label. Following the first 12” came a mini album called "BETWEEN WORLDS" on all formats selling out globally way before the digital age just before the Internet. 

Many top DJs from Lee Burridge, Athony Pappa, Danny Howells to Danny Tenaglia, Hernan Cattaneo to Carl Cox supported the MOONFACE sound back in the golden age of dance music.

Phil then became the new Bedrock resident covering about 5 years warming up monthly in London and Brighton taking over from Howells. As well as touring the globe on the best DJ agency at the time playing at many festivals and events flying the MOONFACE flag. Playing hot spots in Bali, Japan, Russia, Eastern Europe, Georgia, Greece, Malta, South America. Holding up a long-term residency at the legendary Decadance club Thessaloniki, Greece.  

Then came his single "Across the Gulf of Space" released on Bedrock 18 -Signals compilation.  Also current releases and remixes for Future Avenue on remix duties for up and coming Bristol star Tojogo.  Along with releases on Critical Elements, Krafted, If You Wait, ASTIR, Gibbon and Mirabilis, Wolf Trap & Mindwarp, Stripped Digital. 

Back in December 2020 Phil self released for the first time a new double album exclusively on Bandcamp called "PUSHOVER MANKIND".   A collection of 8 weird abstract chill out styled tracks, along with 8 dance floor underground styled tracks. Limited signed & numbered double CD albums are still available. 

2021 John Digweed played a MOONFACE track called U HAVE TO CHANGE in his Miami set playing B2B with Sasha.  This is a unique typical MOONFACE styled uplifting melodic summer time journey.  This track also features on Phil's BBC Radio 1 late night Wind Down set you can now find on YouTube.  Also in 2021 Phil got to work on a remix for the legendary Jan Johnston called One Step Beyond.  This was an original track by Paul Sawyer who had the chance to work with Jan on a number of original vocal tracks.
June 2023 Phil released a fresh new concept album on Sounds of Krafted called FAKE PLANET.  Featuring 14 MOONFACE original unique tracks taking you on a deep hypnotic journey.  You can hear the continuous mix on his Phil MOONFACE Thompson Soundcloud page.

2024 sees Phil continue hosting his FUTURIZED monthly show on Frisky Radio plus presenting his LIVE STREAM shows where he invites DJ mates to play sets via Mixcloud whenever the timing works out with his mates.   Also a brand new original track on a brand a new UK label called Critical Elements.  A remix for Rate & Flow called Deal With It. On top of that Phil has made a brand new remix of his own original track released on Bedrock back in 2001 called Naan Madol. Soon to be available on Bandcamp.
With all the music Phil creates and the DJ mixes he consistently records,  he still loves to Dj but is very selective in where he plays these days.   Playing in the Netherlands for DepGlobe and his now massive Dutch Dj Progressive collective is an honour to say the least..
