I love House, Techno, Acid, Disco, Industrial, Punk, Funk, New Wave, Etc... Basically I just like music that sounds good to Manny's ears. Though I must say I always liked thee underdogs. The artist that didn't go by the rules so to speak... & John Coltrane was one of them.
I always loved jazz since a kid. My eldest sister's boyfriend at the time was big time into it & educated me to various jazz groups & artist like Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Wynton Marsalis, Miles Davis, etc... But it wasn't til the early 90's, my good friend Mike Nichols out of NYC that turned me on to John Coltrane. 
John to me was like the Ron Hardy or Larry Levan of Jazz. He did things his way... NO RULES!!! He played musical notes that were not in the book of jazz. His dependency on heroin took his ears to another level just as Ron Hardy did @ the Musik Box in Chicago & Larry Levan @ The Paradise Garage in NYC.
I never wanted to be like thee next person or even create music that my mentors created... but sometimes your influences just come out of you. One good example would be when I played a Open House Conspiracy Pride event in St. Petersburg, Florida where I opened for Mood II Swing's Lem Sprinsteen. Before he came on he was like NO WAY AM I COMING ON!!! I was like why?? He was like you had the crowd going nuts!! Then after he said, you remind me so much of Junior Vasquez @ his Sound factory days. I must admit, that did put a smile in my face being a Junior -Head... Anyhow, I hope you enjoy this change of my musical selection uploads.

Sami has been a DJ for the last two decades, throwing parties, releasing records, and building a community in Washington DC. He was pivotal in creating the underground event space Subterranean A, and co-founded the DC mega party ROAM. Alongside Joyce Lim and Dawit Eklund, he founded the label 1432 R and has produced music for Future Times, World Building, Rhythm Section, and Ghostly International. Additionally, he has created for Dreamcastmoe and jammed with the Lifted crew.

In addition to his music career, Sami is a journalist and Executive Producer of the largest afternoon news broadcast in radio, All Things Considered. He has received multiple awards for his work, including a Peabody, a Murrow, a World Press Photo Award, and a National Press Club Award. Among his accomplishments, Sami created a show with legendary DJs Stretch and Bobbito, served as editor of NPR's podcast about race, Code Switch, and covered elections, epidemics, insurrections, and music.

Sami's zeal for life and the people he encounters is boundless, fueling him in his pursuit of the perfect flute, hunting down an extra Marantz battery, or summoning the energy to create beats after a long workweek filled with storytelling. His love for music and his career are perfectly in sync, as he effortlessly balances them both. His latest record, Elevate, is a true testament to his musical prowess, featuring four tracks that pulse with energy and vitality. The tracks seamlessly blend elements of house and techno, all held together by an ever-evolving common thread.

Dr Michelle and Mahnoor—a psychologist and a DJ, respectively—discuss ADHD and how neurodivergent individuals can find safety on the dance floor.

In an age of technological surfeit and the attention economy, people are affected with ADHD diagnoses on an increasing frequency. Thinking differently can be both an obstacle and a superpower. While some ways of working and digesting information may be more challenging, others, like creativity, come with more ease.

Today's episode of the RA Exchange, the final instalment of our collaboration with the UK mental health charity Black Minds Matter, explores the topic of ADHD and how it connects with dance music. The industry can attract and often be a safe space for people affected by ADHD diagnoses, says host Vanessa Maria, a London-based broadcaster whose work champions music and mental health. In two interviews, she unpacks what happens on a physiological level when one lives with neurodivergence, music's ability to alleviate many of the symptoms that accompany ADHD and how more inclusive dance music spaces could allow people to better navigate neurodivergence. 

Vanessa Maria's guests are Dr Michelle—a music psychologist, DJ and radio host—and Mahnoor, a DJ who lives with ADHD and creates projects for movement, music and meditation for South Asian minorities. She brings the perspective of someone navigating neurodivergence beyond BMM and the Black community. Listen to the episode in full for their insights.
