Phil Silverberg - Serenity

Emulator is a concerto for Game Boy and string quintet. It is my second attempt at synthesizing acoustic instruments with electronic ones.

A concerto can be a dialog; in this case it is between the Game Boy and what it can do and the string quintet and what it can do. No one instrument plays the same role throughout, but the melodies and harmonies pass between the Game Boy and the quintet readily, as well as between instruments in the quintet.

Here's something quite special to me. I put a lot of work into it to make it sound the best I could, and I'm really proud of the result.

I hope that it communicates the same emotion I feel from the original DS soundfont. The original means quite a bit to me, so I wanted to do it justice in the remaster.

Another track from the Cambridge multitrack library. This one interested me for its contrast between alt-rock and more EDM sound, and I tried to emphasize that in the mix.

Another foray into chiptunes, this time pairing the chiptune sound with more modern electronic synths. It's modelled on the Baroque Ritornello form, so it's a bit like your standard verse/chorus format except the chorus happens first.
