Counting almost three years in the game now, Demand Records have set themselves a mammoth task. To continually release music that cuts through the mounting levels of hype that surround the drum and bass scene of 2013 while retaining an edge of experimental innovativeness is no easy feat.

Luckily, by pushing the task onto the greatest talents of the deep, dark and creative side of the scene, the label have achieved exactly what they set out to do. Drum & Bass on Demand 2 is a collection of darkly intelligent beats from some of the label's biggest stars, as well as some incredible new talents.

The two exclusive vinyl-only tracks kick off with Abstract  Elements'  neurofunk electrical storm that is “Saturn”, a steely rollout through buzzing synths and rapidly morphing basslines.

Entering our third year of the Dispatch LTD series, we kick start the calendar with two outstanding tracks from Philth - one of the scene’s most promising acts for 2014.

“Your Love” is a truly blissful opener to this single. Rich with orchestral distinctions and a mesmeric female vocal at the core of the track, it is carried by a warm, nostalgic bassline that creates a real emotional sentiment. Brilliantly arranged to synchronise multiple elements, it’s a glowing piece of deeper drum and bass.

“Souzou” deceptively begins in mysterious fashion, developing into something far more vicious at the drop. True to the title’s Japanese double meaning, contrasting energies collide and combine throughout the track with effortless progression, all executed with masterful precision.

Metalheadz kicks off a very exciting 2014 with a new team of producers for the label. 

Firstly introducing Mako and DLR who are already starting work on their forthcoming combined Metalheadz album project, alongside we have the fledgling talents of Villem and the elder statesmen of the scene Ant TC1 who in his own right has had a hand in a fair share of memorable releases and himself heads up Dispatch Recordings and Metalheadz.

META015 is project that shows a great depth in the talents of the foursome, it’s a beauty and the beast affair, fantastically executed in the great tradition of Metalheadz.
Kicking off with ‘Hungry For Atmosphere’ this stepper is a perfect set opener, heartfelt strings and keys give way to contorted mids and FXs, whilst the familiar vocal is processed into something altogether more sinister. The track clocks at just over 7 minutes and this says everything of the tracks ambitions, not pandering to anything but its own journey.
Next to step into the ring is ‘A Certain Flavour’ the opposite but yet perfectly paired track to go with the A side. Beginning with a very cinematic introduction it unravels into a growling bass led stepper with staccato drums before switching into a two-step drum work out, tailor made for dancefloors and DJs alike.

A release that we are very happy to kick 2014 off with, welcome to the new breed!

Bio:
In 2017, Command Strange is one of Drum and Bass’ most exciting, unique artists. Now based in London UK, the producer also known as Alexey Fuifanov, has found himself on some of the scene’s most important labels; from Metalheadz, Good Looking Recordings and Hospital - all the way to the mighty V Recordings where he is now signed exclusively. And the reason? Simply put, Command Strange is one of the most versatile producers we have today.

Whatever the label, Command Strange seems to produce banger after banger, fusing his classic jungle, jump-up and soul inspirations into a musical and original whole. Deep into his craft, the Command Strange name has become a byword for guaranteed vibes and musicality.

So where did it begin? After trying his hand at jungle from the age of 7, it wasn’t long before a 16 year old Alexey had attracted the attention of the scene’s most influential tastemakers, with everyone from LTJ Bukem and DJ Marky to Friction, London Elektricity and JJ Frost giving the young producer the thumbs up.

Since then, Command Strange has gone from strength to strength - and that’s one of the reasons why he’s often in the studio with AI. The skillful partnership has proved to be like alchemy, with the guys releasing the huge vocal number ‘Won’t Say Goodbye’ featuring Mc Tali and solo single ‘Brand New Style’ featuring MC Fats on V Recordings - as well as the massive, rolling single with ‘Mad One’ and ‘Broken Grounds’ ft. Jamakabi on Goldie’s Metalheadz label.

In 2016, Command Strange signs to V Recordings, and it represents the ultimate fit for the Russian producer. Still one of the most respected labels in the game, V Recordings remains at the forefront of Drum & Bass, while staying true to its junglist beginnings - so it’s the perfect place for the all-encompassing style of Command Strange.

Philth : Drum & Bass from the deep end.

Since releasing his 100th track in 2017 Philth said he stopped counting, but the prolific artist has shown no sign of slowing down and continues to release music which reaches across the drum & bass scene, from smooth sultry grooves to tweaked-out tech stompers. The array of labels Philth has released on demonstrates his versatile sound: crew-status at Dispatch & Integral; tracks for scene stalwarts Spearhead, CIA, Playaz, Renegade Hardware, Chronic & Fokus; and regular appearances on next-gen imprints Flexout, Lifestyle and Peer Pressure.

The last few years have seen a stream of collaborative projects, including the chart-topping ‘Babylon Sound’ EP with Bredren, deep soul voyages with Phil Tangent as Phil:osophy and the ribcage crushing ‘Heimlich EP’ with long-term associate Wreckless. Connections with MC Fats, Collette Warren, Sense MC and Becca Jane Grey have affirmed his deft touch with vocals and ability to bring emotive songs to the dancefloor, demonstrating his versatility while maintaining consistency across his steady output.

But all the while he has been cherry-picking his favourites and hoarding a vast body of work, now ready to be unleashed as his debut album on Dispatch Recordings. ‘Moments in Time’ is made up of two LP’s of music, and displays the full range of the Philth sound while exploring new depths of emotion and ambient soundtrack-inspired works. Some of the usual suspects are called in for collaborations and vocal features, but there is a deeply personal streak running through the album with soul-searching vocals alongside the powerful basslines. Supported on dub by Goldie and road-tested by Philth & Ant TC1 over the last year, ‘Moments in Time’ can be now heard in the sets of long-time supporters Bailey, Marky, Randall, Artificial Intelligence and the extended Dispatch family. The album showcases an artist on top of his game and will surely elevate Philth into the upper reaches of the genre.

Known for his energy and commitment on three CDJ’s, Philth presents the drum & bass he loves in his own unique way, his sets veering from future soul to pulsating tech-funk in the blink of an eye - keeping audiences on their toes from start to finish with a mixture of smooth blends, sudden switches and his trademark razor sharp cuts. The longer he plays, the deeper he digs, always happy to resurrect the rolling Wormhole sound that inspired him from an early age. Based in London, in recent years he has toured the US and Australia along with regular trips across Europe’s club circuit and all over the UK. Wherever his music has taken him Philth has travelled with boundless enthusiasm and an arsenal of exclusive material. A true DJ who lives for the art of mixing.
