Born from eponymous LYL’s radioshow, Feng Shit Records becomes Décalé’s sublabel for new imprints and scattered directions: a balanced perception between softening aural breeze and spiritual dance substrate.

Castalia Drops delivers a futuristic testament to club / no-club music, rooted in melancholy, and inspired by the fountain of Castalia, whose waters promise poetic creation to all those who drink from it or listen to its murmur. 14 tracks from forewarned visionaries (Epsilove and Christian Coiffure); the freshly illuminated (OKO DJ, Dhakira, Explorations Silencieuses); an ode to aural breezes (Eiger Drums Propaganda, Aloe, AM Khamsaa); psychedelics rituals (Gavr, One Foot Step & Nitrate); and spiritual dance substrates (Tai Rona, 808Hz, Yolek, Antoine).

The 4-sided insert contains inspirational texts and poems provided by some of the artists in their languages of preference like Romanche and Hungarian, among others.

And then came the Visitations.

The fifth opus of the Worst Records library could appear as an audiobook for transcendental meditations. If the idea of trance-induced state is no surprise in the music we deliver to the world, this new album by Ricco goes beyond. The pair formed by Gil.Barte, head of Kump Records, and HLM38, in charge of house Notte Brigante, dare to offer a sinuous collection of mantras melted in light, silver dust and darkness. Each track navigates through ritualistic slow beats, drum'n'bass-ish half tempo incantations and other mystic hybrid forms not so far from Kode 9esque or Shakletonists reminiscences, just to name a few. The titles evoke a spiritual diagonal, from biblical to islamic worlds and arcanes, passing through persian tradition and obscure references hard to decipher. Several interludes, leading to the final Prelude, stand as resting rooms to drown the listener into purifying dark-ambient, where glitches of enlightenment and distants sounds from nature slowly disappear in divine drones. You now hold in your hands a keyholder to somewhere else, a sonic ally through everyday chaos, and spells to protect the soul.

After 5 years of 'Fortnightly Freebies' columns collating our favourite free downloads, we decided to do things a bit differently for the 100th chapter. Introducing 'Big Material', a 19-track 'name your price' compilation that will donate 100% of profits made to Stonewall Housing, a London-based charity supporting some of the most marginalised and vulnerable in our society.

At a time when unfair austerity is increasing inequality and leaving so many behind, we hope to support a community that has given so much to the 'scene' and music we love. Digi-dub abstractions and drifting ambient to kaleidoscopic breaks and newly-coined genre, 'subtle donk', it's a pretty accurate microcosm of the If-Only curation as a whole.

Wilson & Whisper - Gary Blissett

Artist mostly known to specialists, HLM38 is back with another dub-not-dub signature style.

This time the French producer is dropping three original tracks plus three remixes by likeminded folks who all love to walk the downtempo avenue. What all tunes unite, is a classic floating dub-harmonic, in which the off-beats dance contagiously as tripped-up chords. He continued to refine his craft with an experimental approach to dub and industrial excursions, while constantly keeping the joy of the listener in mind.

For remix duties of his slow jamming sensations he asked French producers "UVB76", founders of the tape-only label "OKVLT", to translate “Hierophant” into a toting trip-hop meets industrial leaning tune. In contrast, Swedish producer "The Idealist" enlarged “Empty Quarter” with infectious claps as well as some sub-bass madness. The last one comes from Glasgow’s finest "Lo Kindre", who runs together with his buddy Mr TC the label Phase Group. He transmuted the gloomy stepper “Dammerung” into an adagio synth-treasure.

“Stranger Than Dub”, an Ep that bring six different atmospheres keeping the original dub flavour alive while synergizing the energy again with slow slamming industrial spheres. Journey music beyond the dancefloor, It's time for Babylon to think about his garden!

Initially conceived as a short-run cassette for Altered States Tapes, YL Hooi’s nameless collection of textural apparitions oscillate between icy DIY minimalism, FX-drenched atmospherics and nang chamber dub. A ghost-like transmission, Hooi's voice serves to anchor an array of sonic abstractions and impressionistic melodic motifs as a sense of purgatorial ambience dominates throughout. Co-produced with alleged fellow Kallista Kult member Tarquin Manek (LST, M. Quake), Untitled’s ultimate sensation is its halfway state, as if caught between worlds.

The album's final form speaks of its origins, recorded intermittently over a two year period (2017-2019). The extended time passage seeps into the song structures, spiralling and mutating from the same centre - the elegiac pulse of opener 'Title' presages the hymnal lilt of 'Straight Thru', before birthing the inverted bossa nova of 'W/O Love'. The result is a constantly shifting tableaux of shared liminal spaces. These songs seemingly emerge in plumes of smoke, magician's tricks conjured from the ether. It's a vision that ossifies at Untitled's midpoint with a cover of Love Joys' 'Stranger', the lovers rock original morphed into the transportive intimacy of Hooi's own hazy inner space, a totem of the LP’s amorphous and ultimately sensuous qualities.

The sound from both down under and way out there in subspace, Untitled is an inspired masterstroke of experimental mystics. This 2021 Efficient Space edition is remastered and robed in new artwork that honours the Melbourne-based earth dragon’s Chinese and Russian heritage.
