By Night when Other Soundly Slept was composed and premiered in 2014, using text taken from a 17th Century poem by Anne Bradstreet. 
Written for upper voices reflecting the female voice of prayer intended by the poet. The music has a constantly changing time signature, with interspersed 5/4 bars, lending a sense of anticipation or disquiet as the music builds.
Anne Bradshaw's voice echos through. As an educated young woman, she was ahead of her time; married at 16 and crossing the Atlantic as a pioneer to become the first poet published in England and America.
