Mixtapes have always been a massive part of me as an artist. When I play a live DJ set it’s usually peak time and I cater the music for the dance floor. When I make a mixtape you get the whole of me. 

For me it’s about going on a journey...  Exploring music, the tiny details, the intricate mixing, you can put your style across in a completely unique and personal way and I love that. 

I spent days searching for the beats to include in this mix. It was important for me to use a wide range of music from new and unheard exclusives, current tracks, older tracks as well as some classics that both influenced me through the years and that I still drop in sets today to great effect. Music really is timeless and I wanted this mix to be exactly that.

This Essential Mix is a full representation of my sound and style at this time in my career and was an absolute honour to make.

In June, I had the opportunity to speak with Silas Moldenhawer, better known as one half of Danish electronic production duo, @kentonslashdemon. Having first discovered them back in 2010 through their @tartelet-records releases, and later, as part of @when-saints-go-machine, these Copenhagen producers were at the top of my wish list for the Sound Motives project right from the beginning.

In episode 2, Silas discusses how the group came about, their early musical influences, and the artists that used sampling in ways that have inspired their work... whilst also touching on the Compenhagen scene,  the pressures of expectation, and how he feels about having his work remixed.

Along the way, there are some fascinating 'Sound Sources' including Steve Reich, @axelboman, the @Dubsided label and art collective Dark Matters.

The multi-instrumentalist and vocalist, delivers his first solo release with four tasty machine tracks with some heavy synth work covering a full spectrum of dance floor moments. From balearic lifters and soulful electronic jams to hard hitting Detroit pacers and dark room after party moments, there are flavours for all on this debut.

Slow and smooth build up with an intense but mellow peak that just goes on and on. It fills you with empathy and intense sensation heightening. SWIM smoked a joint halfway through and melted into the couch. It’s perfect for a rolling party with a group of friends, though SWIM imagines it would be great for a proper party too. Sometimes SWIM felt like dancing, but spent most of the time staring into space. This is really nice, intense, smooth and mellow. Get ahold of these if you get the chance!

French born producer and DJ, Mown Alisa, a natural born digger who has been collecting vinyl for years now, shows off his early influences in his latest EP 'Paris Brest' on Berlin based label 'Being All Here Records'. This is a 4 track EP with a remix from Berlin based producer, Max Telaer. 'Bada Au Rhum' is a loungy Acid track with a smooth Jazz vibe, with its bubbly basslines, Jazzy drum breaks and soothing synth chords. 

Paris Brest is set for release on Beatport on August 19th, 2019.
