Kyoto-born, Berlin-based DJ, producer and artist, Alex Kassian has become a firm favourite of ours over here at Phonica over the past couple of years. His sophisticated, lush and organic sounding productions have been picked up by labels such as Paramida’s Love On The Rocks and Alex Bradley’s Utopia Records in recent years. His most recent release, Leave Your Life, was released in 2021 via Pinchy & Friends, and we can safely say it was one of our most-played, and bestselling, records of the year.

Together with Hiroaki OBA, Alex is also one-half of Opal Sunn, who have been operating their own imprint Planet Sundae since 2017, through which they self-released a number of EPs, catching the attention of and support from dance music luminaries such as Andrew Weatherall and DJ Sprinkles.

On the very first Festival day of Horst Arts & Music Festival 2022, Australian duo Sleep D galvanized the Hovering Caress Amère stage with a mind-altering live set. Surrouned by a flock of devoted early ravers, the Butter Sessions founders made it crystal clear why they are at the very front of the progressive house and techno revival. Fast-paced rhythms, refind drum programming and alleviating melodies, all tied together with profound technical finesse.

Hanna Ojanen @hannaojanen is one of our favourite deejays, period. When we threw a series of HRD Adjustment Parties for friends & fam last spring, she was the first DJ to be invited. Her all-night set set a high bar, but was sadly not captured in any form.

Recently she flew in from Brussels (where she resides) and stopped by to let us record this little live mix of blissful, life-affirming house & disco jams. She learned to deejay when living in Tokyo, and the diverse influences of a giant musical metropolis are again very much recognisable. Enjoy!!!

Bogota-born, Berlin-based Tania Humeres Correa aka @thc_dj has perfected the art of high-energy sounds that get big room crowds close together. The Rinse FM host has her own party series La Noche with Byron Yeates and sibling DHC, and with the latter plays back-to-back as S-candalo. Acid, potent rave bangers, vocal gems and deeper delights all feature in her sets which always look to combine an unbridled sense of party with plenty of emotional nuance.

This week's mix was recorded just after the start of festival season so is aimed at getting your summer started in style. Staying true to her signature house sounds with plenty of warmth, euphoria and rolling grooves, it's a perfect representation of her ideal dance floor soundtrack. While leaning towards the energy of the main stage and "anthemic vastness," her selections never forget about the all-important elements of intimacy and soul which help the beats make a lasting impression.
