This track is to make aware of the unjustified actions of a police officer in Seattle. On August 20, 2010 a woodcarver by the name of John T Williams was shot 4 times by officer Ian Birk who was not criminally charged by law enforcement.

Woodcarver

As a part of the 3rd annual J Dilla Tribute Concert festivities, this
year Beat Club STL will be holding a Bare Knuckle Music Beat Battle.
Everyone that participates in the preliminary beat flip challenge will
have their entry posted on the event's Soundcloud page. Beat Club
and event curators will choose the top submissions that will get to
move on to the live beat battle on Feb. 21st.

In the spirit of the event, for the preliminary round we decided to
take a song that J. Dilla sampled (Mary Wells - Two Lovers History),
and give everyone the opportunity to show their chops by making their
own musical creation, by flipping the exact same song. Below is a list
of all the rules and guidelines for anyone interested in competing.

*battle submission info:

-online submissions (dilla flip/remix; no added vocals, no chants/crowd noise)
-submissions open from Tuesday 2/4/14- - UPDATED! Tuesday 2/18/14, 11pm CST 
-email submissions to dilla.tribute314@gmail.com by - UPDATED! Tuesday 2/18/14, 11pm CST 
-all submissions get posted on a soundcloud as promo for battle
-top 6-8 submissions qualify for battle
-must be 18 years or older to be considered for live event battle.

*live event battle info:

-Feb 21st, be there and ready to go by 8p.
-head-to-head rounds, each participant gets 2 beats per round
-each beat will play for 1:30 (one minute and thirty seconds)
-march madness style bracket for battle
-judge panel(4) (crowd vote = tie breaker, if needed)

*prize:

there will be a prize package including but not limited to cash and
gift certificates.

Superman Dam Fool - Dillathing

Following from the buzz garnered by his remix for Machinedrum last Fall, Shadow has applied his production techniques to a fascinating subject: '70s Dutch prog band Supersister.  Releasing a handful of albums on Polydor between 1970 and 1974, the band counted among its ranks one Robert Jan Stips, whose keyboard playing caught the ear of Shadow way back in the mid '90s.  (That's Robert Jan's playing you hear sampled on both the "Organ Donor Remix" AND "Rabbit In Your Headlights" by Unkle!)  Stips and Shadow met in 2010 at one of Shadow's Netherlands "Shadowsphere" shows, and a discussion was introduced about the possibility of a remix or other collaboration.  "It just seemed appropriate," says Shadow, "Given how influenced I've been by RJ Stips' playing.  Plus, it's a great way to draw attention not only to the songs I've sampled, but their broader work as well."  On his remix, Shadow interpolates portions of "Dona Nobis Pacem" by Supersister, and twists them into a complex framework inspired by elements of footwork and the contemporary California beat scene (check out that drop!!!)
