After the last part of the Corpora trilogy and the "Paralyzed" EP by the label owner Sciahri, Sublunar is delighted to introduce a new artist into their family.

For the last decade, Calum Lee AKA Paleman has steadily built a powerful catalogue of releases showcasing his unique percussive and textural take on electronic music. In 2020 he launched a new alias ‘Fresnel Lens’ that showcases his film scoring work and more experimental, explorative personal works running alongside his continuing work as Paleman. After 2021’s self-released PLMN005, 2 Fresnel Lens albums and a short film OST, Paleman turns to Florence based Sublunar Records in 2022 for his next release and longest work to date - ‘Veiled’. The release encapsulates a considered and focused writing process informed by rhythm, momentum, abstract moods and a desire for tangible visceral sound design orbiting techno, UK experimental electronic music, and early electronics.
‘Veiled’ begins with a statement of precision, opener Bite gallops into action with polyrhythmic vactrol loops and grainy incisive modular sound design. The LP moves through moods, spaces and tempos arriving at the distilled and appropriately named ‘Mandible’ that
chews into the previous tracks' themes with a stumbling urgency and an insectoid textural palette. Veiled feels like the culmination of a decade of Paleman works, a collection of tracks and merged sonics that represents his experiments, his club focused minimal works and his more recent explorations on PLMN and as ‘Fresnel Lens’ with drone, experimental and cinematic work. ‘Veiled’ paves the way for a new decade for Paleman, condensed and focused, whilst simultaneously expressive, experimental and free.

Premiere of 'Somnambulist' by Slam, taken from Activate EP forthcoming on Soma Records.

Slam return to Soma with the slick, minimalistic and hypnotic Activate EP. With a focus firmly rooted on the dance floor, the duo explore deeper and more hypnotic regions on this new EP, with a varied selection of raw, driving yet stripped techno.

Title track Activate opens with deep, driving, pulsing rhythms and straight forward percussive elements, lead with hypnotic vocal loops. Quantum delves deeper as dubbed out reverb & delay saturates the tripped out acid bass sounds that flicker into existence as stripped yet effective drums create the intensity. Somnambulist continues the stripped back nature of the EP as subtle changes in FX give the track live whilst the swelling percussive elements drive the rhythms. Trsmit offers up a tougher yet still minimalistic approach to close out the EP. An intense and tension building atmosphere is created throughout the track as warping synths swell & filter against a backdrop of sparse yet effective percussion.

This 'Song' was actually a longer recording for an Instagram video, but listening to it again, I thought it was an interesting jam. Interesting enough for a Soundcloud upload :) Every sound was made live and improvised while jamming with the modular synth.

Brazilian producer Marcal joins Rekids Special Projects series with a rumbling five-track techno release this September.

Releasing on labels such as Phobiq and Sam Paganini’s JAM, Marcal has been turning heads for some years now with regular support from iconic names like Len Faki, Adam Beyer, Charlotte de Witte, and more. Adding Radio Slave to that list, Marcal now joins Rekids Special Projects with arguably his most exceptional release to date.

‘Ainozama’ opens the package with pace as banging drums, offbeat clicks and a murky low-end lay the foundation for rave inspired screeches. ‘Cherry On Top’ is next with its metallic synths, pitter-patter percussion and scintillating atmospherics, leading into the relentless and undulating groove of ‘Heart Race’ which comes complete with sci-fi inspired bleeps. The final two tracks on the package see Marcal collaborate: firstly with Andc and Gabal on the high-octane, hypnotic and squelchy ‘Estado de Transe’; before Marcal teams up with Hosben for the twisted and rattling ‘Renoir’.
