We expected Evan Shornstein aka Photay to come through with some eclectic selections for his Bleep exclusive mix, and he doesn’t disappoint. The prodigious musician and producer’s fascinations lie with different modes of hypnotism — from the grainy micro-ambient of On Hold to the outsider electronica of Waking Hours — and the broad spectrum of influences on this mix showcases his truly voracious tastes. The frosted glass soundscape of his tune ‘Roaming’ shares a textural quality with the cries of The Last Poets’ drum circle rally, while the low-slung reggae of Brigadier Jerry speaks to Photay’s own artistic proximity to dub-like production.

'Oh man, I’ve got good news all around! First of all, even if there wasn’t anything to celebrate, this mix from Heathered Pearls is absolutely superb! Almost two hours in length it navigates many favorite genres and artists represented by the Michigan based label, Ghostly International. Just look at this amazing tracklist! In 2009, Ghostly celebrated its 10 year anniversary as a label, with many shows across the globe. This year, the label is commemorating a decade of performances at Decibel Festival. The 10th Ghostly showcase at Decibel will feature live performances from Dauwd, Beacon, Lusine and Shigeto (Friday, September 27th at the Crocodile) and you know that I’ll be there all night!

Meanwhile, Jakub Alexander (that’s Heathered Pearls), a curator of the ISO50 blog and founder of Moodgadget Records, has just released a digital remix album, titled Loyal Reworks, featuring many great artists, including Sun Glitters, loscil, Markus Guentner and Lawrence. "My mix showcases lots of Photay. Tunes from my recent EP and others unreleased that I often play out. I can't help but travel between 10 genres each & every day so I tried to emulate that here. After a good chunk of stimulation, I finished the mix off with a few mellow/ ambient jams that keep me at ease. It's an honour to be a part of the Solid Steel Series!"

Canadian producer/DJ @JacquesGreene presents a mix to celebrate his euphoric debut album Feel Infinite, beginning with a clip ripped from YouTube that shows people spilling out of Nasa, a rave at New York club Shelter in March 1993. The musician then goes in with ambient tracks, b-sides that didn’t made the album cut, and an "accidental ballroom beat" from Michael Mann’s film Heat.

Solid Steel returns with brand new and exclusive mixes from Four Tet and Trevor Jackson.

For this special show we have Kieran Hebden - AKA Four Tet - partnered with Trevor Jackson - founder of Output Recordings, the independent record label he ran between 1996 and 2006. 

Both artists have a long history with the show (this is Hebden’s 7th appearance and Jackson's 3rd), as well as with each other. Hebden’s early releases as part of Fridge and his first solo release - the 1997 "Double Density" single under the artist name 4T Recordings - were released on Output. The label was also home to the first releases under his Four Tet Alias, including 1998 singles "Thirtysixtwentyfive" and "Misnomer", and 1999's “Glasshead"/"Calamine" single and first full-length album “Dialogue”. Jackson also released music on the label as Skull and Open Music and elsewhere including his work as Playgroup.

Speaking about the mix and his history with Jackson, Hebden told us: “This is a mix of music from all over the place that I’ve been enjoying and getting inspired by in recent times.  A snapshot of my personal listening world. Some of the way I search for music and the way I DJ was learnt from Trevor Jackson so his influence is always in what I do in some way.  I met him when I was a teenager and he introduced me to loads of records with all different styles and origins and also showed me ways to bring these sounds into the future through sampling and DJing. This open minded approach to listening and sound I think is one of the great strengths particularly of producers who came from hip hop in the 80’s and 90’s because there was such a strong incentive to explore all types of music in the search for samples. The passion and enthusiasm for listening and discovering music that comes from this is something I have huge respect for"
