Born and raised in Ghana, Phreeda Sharp began writing poetry at a young age. Growing up in a musical household, initial ambitions of pursuing a career as a writer were shelved when she discovered her passion for song writing and her knack for clever and witty wordplay.

Her striking image, raw yet playful sound actively promotes female empowerment which gives this innovative up-and-coming star an edge that sets her apart from the rest.  She describes her music as “pieces of me that happen to rhyme” and says, “I really just want to pull together a collection of songs that will make people feel powerful and almost invincible when they listen to it. I want to inject energy and ferocity into whoever is listening so when they come away from my gig or from listening to my track, they feel alive, brand new!”

Phreeda has released two mixtapes “7 Days In The Life of a Sharp Shooter” in 2012 and “Ruby, Sex and Vultures” in 2013 cementing herself as one of the UK’s hottest rising talent.

With a sold out debut headline show at Hoxton Sq Bar & Kitchen under her belt, a feature on Channel 4’s Freshly Squeezed and previous collaborations with producers such as MNEK, Don Diablo and Drumsound & Bassline Smith, Phreeda has also gained commendation on popular blogs such as VIBE.com, MTV The Wrap Up, Soul Culture, Wonderland and many more.

Phreeda announced in May 2014 the release of her forthcoming EP 'Phreedom' which is presently scheduled for an autumn release through her own label, Bad Jane Records. The first track from the EP “Unchained” produced by Canadian producer Ken Waters, with its in-your-face bravado and enchanting melodies, sees Phreeda at her best in a visually provocative video. The song has already caught the attention of bloggers, fans and radio stations.

Phreeda Sharp's upcoming EP symbolizes a captivating creative metamorphosis, with a vast recurring - and ever-honest theme in unmistakable Sharp motif; undiluted freedom to be your own person. The fiercely independent-driven approach for the EP release indicates savvy entrepreneurialism for Phreeda Sharp as a business person, recording artist, video director, and Bad Jane Records Executive.

Phreeda also makes her film debut this summer. Director Amy Mathieson hired Phreeda to write and record a title track for British docu-drama One Way Up, the inspiring story of the Peckham BMX Club, which will be released this summer in 3D through the Oscar-winning team of Shine Global/Jet Set Films. So impressed were they by Phreeda, they gave her a cameo in the film as well as a role as its UK ambassador.

“It’s the real-life story of a group of kids who grew up with nothing, but become successful through a BMX club,” explains Phreeda. “It’s about their journey, their hustle, their struggle, their escape.”

As comfortable performing on stage with just an acoustic guitar, her DJ or a live band, Phreeda Sharp is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing artists to emerge from the UK in a very long time.
