When I made this beat I knew I was going to use the ‘change’ vocals from the sample, so once it was finished I immediately thought about putting this acapella from Tupac over it as a remix. I think it turned out nice, very very different to the original which is always dope to me. I did have to alter the pitch of the acapella to get the singing to match, it worked really well cause I layered some subtle singing chops from the sample (lots of ooos and vocal notes with brief words), which blended with the singing from the Changes Acapella, made the whole thing sound more cohesive and convincing as a remix. 

Overall went for a pretty different vibe and sound with this one, I think it’s quite upbeat but still very emotional which I always rate and have a preference for, had to make it different due to the whole song being about changing, both the sample (which is more about changing yourself), and the acapella (which is more about changing ourselves). I think the two go together well for obvious reasons, got a strong overall vibe and message.

I first tried to flip this sample when I was working late. I couldn’t get anything to work so I left it, was a bit frustrated at the time but I held onto the sample cause I knew I had to have another go. There was too much potential to give up on it, just needed to have another listen with a fresh perspective.

Very very happy to have gone back to it to make this beat. I actually flipped the second progression of the beat with the more upbeat feel first, then filtered that to see if I could layer any other chop over to have the filter act as a bassline melody. Always love when that works out, cause the more subtle piano chops worked perfect ontop of the filtering, really lost my mind when making this one. For me when piano based beats are good they’re hard to beat, just something about that instrument over drums is great to me. The way the filtered melodies blended with the more subtle keys really gave the beat a lot of depth and emotion, and I was then crazy motivated to keep on with adding a bit more layering to give the track more variation. Had to make the string chops a  bigger part of the instrumental, couldn't just have them at the end like with the remix.
