Get in the Christmas spirit with my full-band cover of Vince Guaraldi's 'Christmas Time Is Here'! I performed this song recently and ended up randomly playing parts of it in 5/4 time, and I'd never written a song or cover in 5/4 time, so here it is. The middle section is written and performed by yours truly :)

Ben #30 (Remastered) [Preview]

Chips & Queso is a new original instrumental track by Ben Slaughter. This Latin and Indie inspired track includes an upbeat Latin feel, a half-time Indie groove, and a final dance section, inspired by jazz artist Snarky Puppy's 'Whitecap'. One of these days, I may actually get a professional to properly mix it, but for now, enjoy!

Chips & Queso

Sometimes, you just want to sit down and go IN on the piano, whether it's upbeat, chill, or both. This punny track is a first-take piano improvisation. I also throw in a melody of an old television show theme. Brownie points if you know which one it's from!

For those who are unfamiliar with the Euphonium, this is what it sounds like! This performance was during a private lesson at Virginia Tech with Jay Crone in 2011. I really enjoyed learning this piece. Enjoy.

Hi! I'm Ben Slaughter, a 32 year old multi-instrumentalist and Music Education and Piano Performance graduate from Virginia Tech. I am the director of the Giles Community Singers as well as the Orchestra Director and Accompanist at Blacksburg United Methodist Church. I teach piano lessons and have been a part of various bands through the years.

Most of my earlier songs, like Ben #30, 31, and 32, as well as my cover of Snarky Puppy's 'Flood', are tapped in from a Yamaha keyboard with no quantizing, since I didn't know how to utilize that at the time.

I've since discovered GarageBand and Logic for my music, such as my originals 'Chips & Queso', 'No Worries' and 'Dance', as well as my covers 'Praise Is Befitting' and 'Christmas Time Is Here'. 

New music to come.
