Pianist and Jazz Educator Simon Purcell. Hear tracks from forthcoming album "Red Circle" on WHIRLWIND RECORDINGS - release date May 2014.

After many years working in jazz education (currently Head of Jazz at Trinity-Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London), Simon Purcell is re-emerging as a performer, releasing a debut album in May 2014 with the intention of touring throughout the UK and Europe as well as his home city of London. More details to follow soon.

Part of the generation of British Jazz musicians to have emerged in the early 1980s, Simon collaborated with a number of artists who have become major figures in British jazz, including Julian Arguelles, Cleveland Watkiss, Mark Lockheart, Steve Williamson, Christine Tobin, Anita Wardell et al. Although several of his bands broadcast or toured, notably "Jazz Train", a Quartet with saxophonist Mike Williams and Dave Wickins, and his current quintet (with Julian Siegel and Chris Batchelor), "Red Circle" will be his first album, marking a return to the performing arena after 3 decades working in Higher Education in jazz. Some say that this is long overdue.
