Pick a Piper - How It Was Before (feat Sophia Alexandra)

First single from my upcoming Pick a Piper EP 'Sea Steps' due out Dec 3rd via Tin Angel.
‘Keep Your Head Up’ features skippy kick drums, woozy synth stabs and pads and a combination of drum machines and live percussion. Chopped up vocals whisk back and forth in the stereo spectrum and fade in and out of the mix entirely as the track progresses. Overall the message is one of encouragement, self worth and appreciation for those around us that lift us up and make our days not just tolerable but worth living.

This track was conceived during a trip to India in 2019.  I was inspired by the rhythms and music around me while simultaneously wanting to try my hand at some bass-music / drum and bass style beats.  I started writing the beat in a hotel room after purposely not listening to any of those genres and trying to re-imagine them through my own lens.  The end result was something that had the speed and intensity of drum and bass, while sounding almost nothing like it.  The track is based on propelling skippy rhythms sprinkled with sparse ethereal melodies and frantic chopped up Turkish percussion.  
“Parakram” is Hindi for courage and aims to inspire purpose and spirit.

"When Brad from Pick a Piper reached out to have me remix a song from their forthcoming album, I was immediately drawn to Dissonant Hearts. The drums blew me away, and Sophia’s vocals were captivating. The theme of the cognitive dissonance surrounding grief and heartbreak hit close to home too.

To put my own spin on it, I stripped things back a bit, leaving some of the brighter melodies behind in favour of darker textures. I added some weight with an aggressive kick/bass groove and fractured breakbeats, then finished it off by warping the vocals to give them a touch of otherworldly character."
