Taura Love's Picki People Compilation Volume ONE is as much about the music as it is about a movement. A movement inspired by the love of music and hip-hop culture.
 
ENTER Picki People: A crew of beatmakers/producers, DJs, musicians, music journalists/editors, photographers, studio engineers, music business legal AND music marketing experts, graphic/layout artists, and graffiti/fine artists. A group of indie artists from all over the world, joined together by their determination to keep REAL music alive. They can afford to be picky about both the music they create and release. These artists don’t depend on income from the music industry to pay their rent. Independently absolved from the music game, Picki People "do music" for “the love of the art" and not “industry accolades.” 

Originally from South Central-Los Angeles, California, now  hailing from Paris, France, T-Love(an European platinum artist and legendary Leimert Park emcee) has 'recruited' artists from all over the globe for this compilation including: Legendary artists from Los Angeles Myka Nyne & Riddlore(Freestyle Fellowship & Good Lifers),and from Venice Beach, the Grammy Award-winning artist/composer, Nelson Marquez. From Meaux-Town, France: Dusty+DJ Damage from the platinum hip-hop group Jazz Liberatorz, and their homeboy, Breiss. She has also recruited a talent originally from Ghana (M.anifest), from North Carolina (Mercury Waters), South Carolina (Preach Jacobs), Minnesota (Kai Swivel & Katrah-Quey), Atlanta, Georgia (Audessey of Soundsci), London, England (Jonny Cuba & Ollie Teeba of Soundsci), Tunisia, Africa (The Last Genius), Louviers, Normandy-France (Xcuz & Cyrille Barbé) and Brooklyn (Yesh from Siah/YeshuaDaPoEd & Niamaj).
 
Putting this world vibe in the “mix” is super producer, Picki People's in-house mixing engineer,Dexter Thibou (Brooklyn, NY+Atlanta, GA/USA). A legend in his own right, Dexter has mixed tracks by Gang Starr, MOP, DJ Premier, Dilated People, Black Moon, Pharcyde, Ras Kass, OC, Bahamadia, D&D. His first contribution to the project is his stellar mix of the compilation's single, "Summertime People". 

The beautiful dynamic created by this enormous, international, independent and financially self-sufficient crew, is that they are able to concentrate on making the music THEY WANT to make, instead of worrying about keeping up with commercial music's ever-changing trends and formulas. The gross sales of the music industry have been on the decline for a decade now. Not saying that technology has not hurt and/or affected those sales, but maybe we should stop blaming it for a minute and take a look at ourselves. Maybe the problem also lies with the people. Like, for example, if there were more picky people, the music industry (and probably the world) would be an even better place.

Surely, coming from this angle, music enthusiasts from all over the world would be left to ponder : Would the past ten years in the music industry have been better, IF: A&R were more picky about the records they release; if MC's were more picky about the lyrics they spit; if DJ's were more picky about the quality of music they play... and if we, as fans and listeners, were more picky about the music which we listen to, instead of just getting caught-up in the billion-dollar marketing/advertising hype. And sure, maybe the music made by THESE commercial artists/groups is better than that of THOSE others. But is it REALLY better? Just good?--or ABOVE average?

Picki People are indie and handle their business, but in the words of DJ Dusk [RIP], "It's a family affair."

Les chiffres de ventes de disques depuis maintenant presque dix ans sont en chute libre. Il est peut-être temps d'arrêter de s'en prendre à la technologie et de se regarder dans le miroir. Peut-être que le problème vient de nous. Si les gens étaient un peu plus difficiles, peut-être que l'industrie du disque se porterait mieux.

On est en droit de se demander si le mileu de la musique n'aurait pas moins de problèmes si les directeurs artistiques étaient un peu plus regardant sur les artistes qu'ils signent, si les rappeurs étaient un peu plus exigeants avec eux-même, si les DJs étaient un peu plus pointilleux sur la qualité de ce qu'ils jouent et surtout si le public était un peu plus difficile avec les groupes qu'il supporte. Oh, bien sur, Lil Machin est meilleur que tous les autres rappeurs qui passent en radio, mais est-il BON ? Ou juste moins mauvais que les autres ?

Arrive Picki People : un crew de producteurs, DJs, musiciens, photographes, journalistes, ingénieurs, graphistes, avocats etc... Un groupe d'indépendents des quatre coins du monde réunis par l'envie de faire prospérer la musique de qualité. Pour la plupart d'entre eux ces gens ne dépendent pas de l'industrie du disque pour payer leur loyer chaque mois, c'est pour ça qu'ils peuvent se permettre d'être difficiles. Dans l'équipe Picki People on fait de la musique par passion. Celà crée une dynamique dans laquelle les membres du crew monté autour de T-Love alias Taura Love peuvent se permettre de produire la musique qu'ils veulent, sans avoir à se soucier des tendances actuelles.

Son nom ne vous est peut-être pas familier mais il a probablement mixé certains de vos morceaux préférés de Gang Starr, MOP, Black Moon, Dilate People, Pharcyde, Ras Kass, OC ou Bahamadia.

Taura Love's Picki People Compilation Volume ONE c'est plus que de la music, c'est un mouvement, un mouvement inspiré par l'amour de la musique et de la culture hip-hop. Picki People ce sont des indé qui gèrent leurs propres affaires, mais comme le disait DJ Dusk, c'est avant tout une affaire de famille.
