De Gama Loves To Boogie

Stepping up for our first mix of 2020 is Italian producer Stefano Gamma!! Stefano goes by many aliases, but De Gama is his most lauded in no small part thanks to the 2010 classic tribal jam 'Afrika' that continues to get heavy rotation to this day. He’s co-founder of Samosa Records alongside Les Inferno, a fast-rising edits label from Rome that pushes all types of funk with Afro, Brazilian, Latin and boogie flavours in a disco house style, released strictly on heavyweight black vinyl. For us he dons his De Gama cap to throw down an hour of seriously good club focused edits which are sure to get anyone moving. Trust us when we say, this will get your Friday going in all the right ways, turn it up!

Music and More PiCOSSU November 2020 DJ Set

Making his debut on Particle Zoo, rising star Picklejam (Hot Digits, BBC Introducing) fires off a salvo of synthwave-style Nu-Disco nuggets. Dripping in authentic 80s sounds, and with one foot in a genre often bordering on pastiche, Moonlight Impulse is assured, full of character and packs enough Disco to delight fans of either genre.
Indeed, San Junipero's distinct nods to all things 1980s aptly reflect its inspiration; Charlie Brooker's brilliant Black Mirror episode of the same name. And, like the screenplay itself, each track blends fantasy, nostalgia and playful sampling with depth, drama and a little glimpse of grit under the surface to keep us all invested.

On remix duty, another rising star, Stephen Richards of Tropical Disco, Hot Digits and Spa In Disco repute, dials up the funk and delivers a glorious version of Virtual Joyride. Label boss Don Dayglow channels some 96-99 era DJ Shadow into 8 minutes of evocative, polyrhythmic Deep House. Newcomer Keith Fortune takes on the same track, Moonlight Impulse, and emphasises the neon-fun-times vibes while beefing up the low end.

Musician, DJ, producer & preserver of pickled Disco grooves. Co-founder and resident of Paradise Discs with releases and remixes featured on Hot Digits and Particle Zoo Recordings (forthcoming). Picklejam first began producing and mixing records after moving to Leeds in 2011 and starting his endeavours at university studying for a degree in music production. Back then things were a little different as he produced Tech-House under the alias 'Modec'. At this point he met inspiring Leeds based DJs who introduced him to the infectious sound of World Disco, this is were his direction changed. Taking inspiration from artists such as Fingerman, Ziggy Phunnk & Yam Who?; Picklejam has developed his signature sound which reflects his love for all things Cosmic Disco. His sets and productions reflect on the fundamentals of the genre, capturing its' essence with elements and characteristics of Italo Disco & Synthwave intertwined with Nu-disco production and cosmic sounds.
