Picnic Social Live | Mix #2 | Caravan

Caravan is a man of many aliases but is home to two ears we've trusted for close to a decade at Picnic. From early days as our sound tech, moving from sound desk to the decks he showed us his true musical colours and it's fair to say his deep diving into all things tasteful is right up our alley. 

As a producer, we eagerly waited for him to drop his originals on the world and he's now been doing that for a few years with some absolute mind melters on Planet Trip, CC:DISCO!'s amazing First Light Vol 2 compilation, Ken Oath, Cashminus, Hole In The Sky and his own label Treat Street. 

He's a Frenchman who thankfully found his home in Sydney and we're delighted to feature this live recording of one of his DJ sets at Picnic Social as the second mix in the series featuring two hours of Balearic downtempo oddities from around the globe.

We're honoured to host this stunning set from gillielove recorded live at one of our parties at Tokyo Sing Song. 

A bumper night featuring DJ Plead, DJ Spit, Command D and gillielove opening the night with this perfect warm-up set.

Gillie is an Eora-based music enthusiast and selector with a deep curiosity in club culture, experimental sounds, and emotional soundtracking. Expect diverse selections with feels. Gillie launches a new home listening show titled ‘Off Duty’ on Nomad radio Saturday 16th July 2-4pm. Off Duty is a monthly show that invites guests to share an eclectic range of sounds for home listening.

They'll also be back in the warm-up slot for us on July 15 2022 at Deep Bleep with Cousin (live), Command D + Niku, and Crescendoll.

Our pal and DJ extraordinaire Tamas Jones emailed us last month with an early Spencer Kincy mixtape he'd uncovered from the very early '90s, which was given to his ex-girlfriend by Kincy himself when she was living in Chicago around that time.

His music, most often released under the name Gemini, was a critical part of the house music revival in Chicago around the mid-'90s, along with artists like Derrick Carter and DJ Sneak. Kincy's releases on key labels like Planet E, Peace Frog and Relief were played by the greats of the time, and his DJ sets were incredibly eclectic, astonishingly programmed and completely unique. He was truly one of Chicago house's greatest talents. 

After a brief move to San Francisco in 2000, Kincy returned to his home town in a bad state. He isolated himself from his friends and the music scene, and ultimately ended up homeless. Since then his whereabouts are somewhat of a mystery, and despite his music still being in hot demand with collectors and lovers of classic house music, it's unclear if much of it will ever exist outside of the original limited vinyl releases. 

With this in mind, it's even more exciting to come across this little nugget of house music history. Big thanks to Tamas for allowing us to share this. Enjoy!
