Track 4 of the first Chulrua CD Barefoot on the Alter released in '99 with Tim Britton on uillean pipes, wooden flute, and tin whistle, Paddy O Brien on button accordion and Pat Egan on guitar. This particular track is just with Tim on pipes and Pat on guitar playing Tim's rendition of Seamus Ennis's version of this slow air, followed by two jigs, the second being one of the great old big piping jigs made famous by Willie Clancy. 

From the liner notes: We recorded this album over four days just after the Summer solstice, the longest day of the year. In record heat with humidity to match, we drove from my home in Fairfield, IA, down to the little village of Bentonsport. Once a small but thriving river town, it wouldn't exist now but for the efforts of a few warm hearted artisans who keep it going as a reminder to the tourists who wander through of what life can be like. We were amazed to find that this community once sustained four churches. Two remain, one of which afforded us the combination of isolation, spacious sound, and availability our recording required. It also personified the unpretentious beauty that predominates the rolling farmland around it and the people living there.

Outside, bees buzzed, birds sang and fireflies danced late into the night. Inside, seated barefoot on the alter to minimize the reverberation of our foot stomping, we played the old tunes. But, like the irrepressible rhythms of Paddy's fingers, the gentle strength of Pat's voice, or the raw emotion of the pipes; like the laughter of children or the spirit of the people of Ireland and everywhere else; like the small green things that push their way through the pavement of progress; the foot stomping persists like a heartbeat.

The first and title track of the only CD by the acoustic folk/rock band from Fairfield, Iowa, Sage, featuring Jimmy Moore on guitar, vocals and mandolin, Robert Reeder on vocals, guitar and harmonica, Daniel Sperry on cello, Tim Britton on mandolin, uillean pipes, tin whistle, shaker. All songs written by Jimmy and Robert. Recorded live to a stereo mic with no editing or mixing of any kind, it was engineered and produced by Tim.

My name is Tim Britton. I am the owner of Pied Piper Productions. I grew up in a family central to the Philadelphia folk music scene. Since the tender but tenacious age of 11 I have passionately pursued the art of Irish music through one of the most demanding and arcane of instruments, the uillean pipes. The difficulty of obtaining a set at the time led me to make my own and have since striven to refine the design, construction and taming of the mercurial beast. I have since had the honor of playing with the creme de la creme of the Celtic music world and beyond, appearing on over forty recordings.

As I performed and recorded more I became interested in the technicalities of sound, both live and recorded, and have been increasingly invested in sound engineering and producing out of my own studio, as well as designing and selling high end audiophile playback systems, with an eye to vinyl and tube electronics.
