“Dubble” plays with duality from the first bar: a half-time, sub-heavy undercurrent is set against sharp, double-time tops. The kick and bass move like a single, heavy pendulum while hats, claps, and micro-percussive ticks skitter in twice the pace, creating a push-pull tension that feels both grounded and restless. Dub-techno DNA is clear—tape-kissed chords, long spring-style tails, and ping-pong echoes—but the overall weight is modern, dry, and warehouse-ready.

Stereo is part of the composition, not just the mix. Short Haas-style offsets, phase-teased fills, and mid/side automation make motifs “mirror” themselves across the field. A call-and-response develops between a rounded chord stab and a slightly detuned twin, the “double” theme rendered as melody. In the middle section, the grid thins to filtered echoes and low noise floor before the groove reassembles with a tougher, more articulated bass figure.

By the coda, most elements are stripped back to sub, chord, and delay, letting space do the talking. “dubble” is equal parts tool and narrative: functional enough to move a crowd, detailed enough to reward headphone listening—an exercise in doubling rhythm, image, and meaning.

Continuing what has been an incredible year, Alex O'Rion returns to Cid Inc's Replug Records with 'The Long Walk'. Having made his label debut in 2019 with the highly regarded 'Marathon' EP, the Dutch artist also lays claim to releases on Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music and Nick Warren's Hope Recordings. 2020 has proved to be a prolific year for the talented Dutchman, as he now finds himself as the producer of the moment, following a long line of Beatport Top five remixes and notable DJ support. Now firmly allied with the progressive music elite, Alex makes a welcome return to Replug with a three-track artist showcase. 

Getting the release underway and sitting as one of Alex's most emotive productions to date is the title selection 'The Long Walk'. Warm beats and a full, rolling groove set the foundation for a narrative of wistful arps and uniquely tailored percussion. Pushing a poignant narrative, plush tones and hopeful overlays drift across the framework for impassioned moments, before melting down into a glowing centrepiece. Free and flowing, the interlude spans nearly two minutes in length, gently building tension through muted beats and ethereal phrases, before a trail of vocal gates and waves of noise cue a heartfelt finale.

Equally excellent, the second selection 'Mirari' furthers the EP's whimsical appeal. Smooth, elegant and a touch romantic, the 'Day Mix' delights with its creamy tones and elegant motifs. Thoughtful atmospherics carry the dreamlike storyboard, while pulsating bass lines marry surreal melodic concepts, before an expansive break provides the perfect prelude to a gorgeous final act. The 'Night Mix' sits as a worthy alternative with it's darker, dubbier approach, highlighting the main themes in less distinct fashion while delivering the message with a tougher groove and equally fluid narrative. 

Putting on a stamp on this enthralling collection are the surreal melodies and modern architecture of 'Komodo'. Dark and compelling in equal measure, it's a collage of lively percussion, sprawling synth phrases and otherworldly effects which captivate across the seven-minute journey. Prophetic themes and siren-like synths expand the musical narrative across a cavernous break, gently washing over a rumbling underbelly, heightening the senses and ultimately closing the release out on a mystical note.

As Alex O'Rion continues to navigate a landmark year, his latest Replug vehicle 'The Long Walk' is sure to unite progressive music fans with his undeniable blend of talent, craft and technique.
