Petra Digital/Vinyl label is back with a bumper new release that boasts four originals by Bärtaub and then four remixes by a top selection of contemporary artists. These include Swayzak, Roger Gerressen, Tolga Fidan & Cesar Merveille plus Havantepe and between them they make for a fantastic and essential release.

Bärtaub is two musical figures that hail from the concrete jungle of Istanbul. Mutlu San’s electronic music productions are blessed by a perpetual, spacious and moving nature, while Batu is deeply appreciated by house and techno aficionados of the city as being a restless DJ.

Their first tune Atrax is a deeply atmospheric house roller with great chords bringing light and colour to the groove. Find And Hide is built on a brilliantly programmed drum line that rocks back and forth on its heels and has loose percussion tumbling over the top as skewed synths bring some freakiness. Raw Land then gets more gritty with a prying synth riff that is edgy and mysterious as trumpets drift up top. It’s an intriguing track with a real sense of story telling then final original Bender is the most slick and up tempo of the lot, with rubbery drums and deft percussion all interweaving to groom and hypnotic effect.

The first remix is of Atrax by Roger Gerressen and is a super stripped back and deep dubby house roller which burrows far into your brain. The esteemed Cesar Merveille and Tolgan Fidan then work their magic on Find And Hide which is a super supple and subtle minimal track thats alive with synths, hits, bass strokes and rumbling drums. It’s the sort of thing you cannot resist dancing to.
Havantepe’s version of Raw Land is an uptempo, quick and slick house number with soft but forceful drums and chords that bring ever more pressure and tension as they build above a molten acid line. Last of all the legendary Swayzak flips Bender into a futuristic techno cut with gentle, soul infused pads but busy, electro styled percussion. It makes for a nice interplay as the drums bounce along and closes out an essential EP.

Bergen is the next, and natural step in the expanding career of Dutch producer Tom Trago. The acclaimed producer behind Voyage Direct will release his fourth LP, with the label and crew he's built a close relationship with over the past ten years - Dekmantel. With a new studio and approach to music, Bergen is Trago sounding at his very finest, returning to his roots with a focussed, and dedicated production ethos.

“If you change your environment, your music will also change with you,” Trago reflects on the new album. A staple in the Amsterdam club scene, Tom Trago has been a familiar face at the Dekmantel events for over ten years. “I was even playing Dekmantel parties, before they were even called Dekmantel,” he states. Tom Trago's collaboration with Dekmantel has allowed him the space to grow and finish his most accomplished, and honest album to date. Bergen is an LP that connects his legacy, family, and commitment to dance music in one resplendent package.

There are not many artists these days who manage to forge their reputation solely as a DJ, but Pierre comes proudly from an era when the craft of stitching records together into a meaningful experience had just as much importance placed on it as being the producer behind the tunes. From his position of influence as one of the long-standing residents of the world famous Fuse club, he has been responsible for countless moments of shock and awe amongst the club-going crowds of Brussels and beyond.
His roots are in the foundations of funk, soul and disco, although like any seasoned digger his tastes reach into the pulse of new wave and obscure 80s electronics. From catching the house and techno bug in 1991 at Fifty Five in Kuurne, he made a natural progression to spinning US deep house at a Sunday residency at Café d’Anvers, at a time when it was rarely heard in Belgium.
This determination to play the music he wanted to hear, whether fashionable or not, has guided his style ever since, and when Fuse opened in 1994 his remit to explore Detroit house and techno as one of the residents gave him the perfect platform to shape the identity of the iconic club.
Through the years of the mammoth I Love Techno events, sharing a radio show with Dave Clarke and delivering numerous mix albums, Pierre also found time to channel his groove instinct into studio sessions. Of these excursions, one of the most timeless is his “Reconstruction Mix” of Spokesman’s “Acid Creak”, originally released in 1994 and still slammed out at techno temples across the world to this day.
However the increasingly knuckleheaded thump of schranz and other such monochromatic techno styles meant that Pierre’s focus started to evolve towards a more experimental style, and with JessicaBossuyt he started the Lessizmore events, label and booking agency as an outlet for the most creative aspects of European house and techno.
The boom in more adventurous minimal records in the early ‘00s was a perfect match for Pierre’s wild tastes, and as the credible corners of the scene kept moving on to pastures new so Lessizmore has evolved naturally to present some of the most exciting music revolving around, but not limited by, the 4/4 groove.
With his years served in the nightlife of Brussels Pierre has turned his hand to parties in unofficial locations, held down residencies at Le Triptyque in Paris and Arma 17 in Moscow and also been invited to launch the Fuse label. It’s this mixture of professional instinct and a constant hunger for new, challenging ways to experience music that have made Pierre such a lasting influence on generations of party people, with the art of his DJing and the direction of his events at the heart of what he does. In his own words, “whether it be for the Fuse’s bookings or those for my label Lessizmore, it’s more of a feeling and family business than anything else.”
