A short poem/ collection of thoughts on death, based  on a placement.

So...

A reflection on a real couple I cared for, with many of the lines either quoted verbatim or paraphrased from our conversations. The names have been changed and the story altered slightly for confidentiality.

A little nursing lesson:
Dysphasia: difficulty speaking
Dysphagia: Difficulty swallowing
P.E.G./ Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy: A feeding tube fitted to go through the abdominal wall straight to the stomach. Usually used in diseases which affect the ability to swallow.
Suction: Handheld vacuuming machines for liquids/secretions; usually used to clear the airway of people who can't do so themselves.
