8dayCast 358 - MENDEL

Our first international show was a wild success - closing out Sauna at Ritter Butzke with the @stilvortalent family was a dream come true! Berlin, you really know how to party, even at 7am you were still going strong and we felt like we could've kept playing for hours. And going back-to-back with @elifmusique at the end was a fun surprise, we love her music and sets and so it was a huge honor to share the decks with her!

Big thanks to @oliverkoletzki and the team at Stil Vor Talent as well as @ritter-butzke, it was wonderful to meet everyone and experience a true night out in Berlin for the first time. Can't wait for the next one!

This week we welcome Steyoyoke resident artist MPathy to take care of episode #67.

Bio:

Berlin based DJ/Producer, MPathy, developed a strong interest for electronic music at a very young age. Growing up in the city of Berlin he was highly influenced by the electronic music scene in the 90’s. He later spent a couple of years in Chicago and also in Shanghai where he got involved with the local electronic music scenes, which ultimately shaped his outlook on electronic music today. With Techno music and DJing being his greatest passion for a long time, he started to work on his own productions in 2008. Since then he has produced Techno, Tech-House and Minimal music for various record labels.
After finishing his audio engineering studies in 2012 he joined the Berlin based Ethereal Techno label Steyoyoke. MPathy is responsible for the first and most successful Steyoyoke release in collaboration with Antonio Olivieri, ‘If I Were Music’. He played gigs all over Europe, Brazil and Africa and shared the decks with Oxia, Coeus, BLANCAh, Rauschhaus and Ran Salman, just to name a few.
MPathy is eager to push off in his own direction to continue to both challenge and provoke existing concepts of making unique and forward thinking music.

Ich öffne meine Augen und nehme mit vernebelten Verstand den blauen Himmel wahr. Mit meiner Handfläche ertaste ich das satte Grün unter mir. Als ich den Kopf drehe erblicke ich, mit immer noch leicht verschwommenen Blick, zappelnde Gestalten. Sie bewegen sich rhythmisch hin und her. Wohlige Wärme durchströmt meinen Körper, als eine strahlend weiße Wolke den Platz für die Sonne freimacht. Langsam setze ich mich auf und meine Synapsen werden weiter mit Eindrücken geflutet. Aus verschwommenen schwarzgrau wird pfauenfeder-bunt. Lachen und wilder Tanz bestimmt die Szenerie, die umrahmt wird von elektronischen Kompositionen. Alle scheinen so frei und unbeschwert zu sein. Es herrscht eine Schwerelosigkeit des Seins wie bei Kindergeburtstagen aus früheren Zeiten. Die Umgebung ist detailverliebt geschmückt und die Teilnehmer dieses fantasievollen Kongresses scheinen dem Alltag nie begegnet zu sein. Voller Freude erhebe ich mich und begebe mich ins Getümmel.

I had to cut out a track from this mix (unreleased, unsigned) - it's this fade-out/fade-in part on 1:31h - sorry for that. But please enjoy this recording as much as I enjoyed my gig. It was a sunrise set from 05:00-07:00 in the morning over the roofs in the city center of São Paulo. What an experience!

With more than 20 years behind the decks, Piet van Noord is definitely one of the old hands in the scene. After winning a DJ contest in 2007, he became the host of the 𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗖𝗧𝗥𝗢𝗡𝗜𝗖 𝗗𝗘𝗩𝗢𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 radio show produced in Munich. Meanwhile, with more than 150 shows, it has a fixed slot on 𝗗𝗜.𝗙𝗠 (Denver, USA), where it is also home to such greats as Adam Beyer, Armin van Buuren and John Digweed. In his monthly show Piet also regularly welcomes international guests, including artists such as Oliver Koletzki, Township Rebellion, Ben Böhmer, Jonas Saalbach & Guy J.

This global influence is also reflected in his varied sets, which can range from gritty, spheric Progressive to impulsive Techno, being unique in this way. Anyone who has been able to experience Piet live, will clearly confirm this. In his hometown Munich you can regularly catch him live at Bahnwärter Thiel and Zur Gruam.
As one of the founders of NACHT & NEBEL, he opened a new chapter in his life in 2017 with the launch of his own series of events.
