A small experiment I'm working on, testing fading from one track to another.

It doesn't loop as well as I would like, but I wanted to upload something since it has been a while.

Flat Circle -- Fade test

An experiment of mine working with the "Chordal Texture" pattern in orchestral composition.

This isn't a "pure" chordal texture, because I got carried away trying to make it sound cool, but I really really like how it turned out! I feel like I'm demystifying a little bit of what makes orchestra so magical, and it has me really excited!

Choral Txtr - Sake Cadence

Holy.

This is another practice piece I made. It was originally just the melody portion, but I really liked how it sounded, so I added strings in the second half, and... whoa. I really really like how this turned out!

Panko Pop

I made this last night when I had trouble sleeping! I really enjoy melancholy sounds, so it feels special to me.

This is just a recording of me playing, so it's quite imperfect. A couple people really seemed to like it, though, so I thought I would upload it.
I would like to turn it into a proper song in the future, but for now, I'll have the solo piano here!

Nerd Alert:
Moving between [IV -> Ib] over and over has a really gentle sound. I also tried my hand at using chords/progressions that I'm not used to, trying to break out of my comfort zone (wow! i found a way to use a diminished vii chord!)

The main melody is made in sentence form, and I repeat the continuation, then the cadence since it's the most interesting part of the song.
The repetition helps make it sound dreamy, but more importantly, I was fixated on the idea of playing outside as a kid. You're having fun, but the sun is going down, and you know it'll be over soon. Before you have to go inside, you want to play just a little bit longer than you should. The melody lasts just a little bit longer, before it's finally time to rest.

Candlelight

This week's project is something i made up while thinking of the rover named Opportunity, and its famous last message before it ran out of power.
"My battery is getting low, and it's getting dark."

The vocals you're hearing are taken from one of Tenma Maemi's streams! Listen for the "doo doo doo" in the second half of the song. Her humming voice is cute, but I totally made it sound alien so I could play it like a synth. Nice! I don't think I'm done with this piece, but I am putting a pin in it for now.

Opportunity

A couple of years ago, I tried making a song imagining the stages of sleep, from shallow sleep to REM sleep. It was super simple, with repeating parts throughout the entire thing. 

It's interesting listening back on it and trying to dissect what makes me like it even now, even though I was much less experienced.

Anyway, I remember reversing the track, and being really into how the string section sounds reversed. I found both the files, and figured I'd use the reversed string section as an intro. Now... it's like a perfect loop, trapped in time, always repeating.

My favorite part is the piano bit during the string section. The right hand alone is playing a 3:2 polyrhythm (though it's difficult to tell with how loud the strings are)

A quick little thing I made. I really enjoyed working with the chords, and then realized that school/PA chimes worked with the royal road progression. Cute!

A quick piece I made this morning!!

I had in my mind the idea of someone who spent his entire childhood looking at the stars. He had a dream of visiting another star one day, to see what the other worlds would look like.

After he grew older and wiser, he pursued his dream. He got closer to the stars than anybody else ever did. But he realized in his old age, that the distance is just too great, and no one can finish a journey like that in a single lifetime. 

The realization that the very light of the stars he was looking at traveled thousands of years to reach him. 

So he rests when he can go no farther, trusting the journey will be finished by the next person-- Or that they will at least get closer.

Anyway, that's the image I had in my mind, but at the end of the day it is just piano, cello, and a bell. Hope you like!!

Nature Of Starlight

Lol I drank a bottle of Peach Rosé Wine last night and made a recording of me doing improv. I was trying to make a reference that I could practice orchestrating, so I just played whatever.

Orchestrating it did not go well, but I listened to the improv recording this morning and it's actually not bad. You can hear some movements that I use in a lot of my music, some bread and butter/staples of mine I guess, so I'm not proud of reusing those. But I do like how it feels like there's this illusion of multiple voices moving, not just a simple melody + bass line, or melody + accompanying chords. idk how tf i did it

one thing i did learn while doing this was that playing the IV note over a vi chord sounds so beautiful. it like makes a really unstable mix of dissonance and consonance. i think i'll use it in other music going forward

Peach Rosé

I had melancholy feelings, so I improv'd with them!

Though it was my oshi playing "Before Your Eyes" that got me in this mood, I was thinking of Kuroko while I was playing this! Kuroko is a character in my own FFXIV canon. 

I personally like how it turned out! I just knew going into it that I wanted to start with stacked 5ths and 4ths, then I knew I wanted to modulate to G Major, then back to D Major at some point.

A little track I made, inspired on a character I made for a TTRPG!

It's insane to me how good this ended up sounding.
The composition isn't mine, Suno made it all-- I just took all the variations I liked, and frankensteined them together to sound like a logical song progression.

Musicians in the future are gonna have it so easy.

Thousand Echoes

hi!!

last night i improv'd using the Lydian Scale. I started and ended on C Major mostly as an experiment to see if it sounded stable or not.

To  my ear, the first time it sounds stable, but after hearing most of the song resolve to the F chord in the big moments, C Major starts to sound foreign-- like it's not the tonic anymore.

I like it a lot!! It was a fun test! So I made it into a loop, for a dreamy/floaty/neverending feel.

Lydian Loop Thing

A dedication for my sister. I wanted to emulate Phillip Glass, and I ended up falling back to some of my own musical heuristics to fill it out. For better or for worse. Polyrhythms are fun, though.

Unofficial arrangement of Undertale.
I was playing around with different ways of arranging it, because the main theme is very modular to toy with, and I had an inexplicable urge to Christmasify it. So that's what I did.

I thought it came out okay so I thought I would upload it.
