The 59th episode of Schimmer's podcast series was recorded by Berlin-based DJ and promoter Reka Zalan.

Reka is known for hypnotic depths and percussive drives — always tuned to atmosphere and often drawn to the gloomier sides of Techno. Her sets, whether digital or vinyl, move forward, outward, and inward, balancing tension and flow. Deeply rooted in Berlin’s scene, she’s a local Tresor resident, Hard Wax staffer, part of Coppi collective, and former ://elements co-host. Before immersing herself fully into club life, she worked at the Berlin Music Commission. Driven by curiosity and connection, Reka loves building bridges through sound and shared moments.

New SPND20 Mixtape in: welcome Function!📼

One of techno’s true underground heroes, Function steps in with a mix that captures the essence of his club sound: deep, dark, hypnotic and intensely layered. Cerebral yet physical, this set distills over 30 years of experience into a rolling trip that’s as uncompromising as it is immersive.

Recorded in Berlin with a Xone 96, with Function’s signature sound design woven throughout, the mix bridges heavyweight classics and future-shaping material. Kicking off with Nastia Reigel’s massive new remix of his own Disaffected, it showcases three tracks from her upcoming debut album Identity (out September 26 on Infrastructure).

The selection runs wide: from Regis, Rødhâd, LSD, Nørbak, Nastia Reigel, Ignez, Rene Wise, Silent Servant, Alarico and UFO95 to unreleased gems by Filippo Scorcucchi - alongside Function’s own productions, edits and textures. Lately, I’ve been reflecting on why I chose electronic music—especially coming from a background in flamenco guitar. For a while, I kept asking myself, What exactly is techno? But I’ve come to see that this question leads away from the truth rather than toward it. Now I ask something simpler, more personal: Why am I drawn to this sound? Each track gives me small, wordless answers—fragments of what I’ve been feeling, seeing, thinking. It’s not about genre or how it might sound to others. It’s about translating lived experience into sound—unfiltered, emotional, and real, in a way that captures the emotional imprint of my recent life, moment by moment. Freedom has always been precious to me. I feel most free in the mountains—especially standing before the twin peaks of Ushba. That mountain means something very real to me. It took the life of my friend this year—a true Svan, a pure Georgian soul. I’ve never met anyone like him.The best Mountaineer, freerider and skier, a man of extraordinary dignity, someone who would open his home to anyone. He was one in a billion. This mix is more than music to me. It’s not a project or a product—it’s everything. A personal imprint of all I’ve been processing: grief, awe, beauty, and a longing for something beyond words. In that way, it’s not something I made. It’s something that revealed itself.

WVRM POOL has grown a reputation for delivering intense moments on dance floors across London’s techno scene. He played an amazing opening set alongside Slinky Kinky at our collab event with Elata so it’s a pleasure to welcome him back. His mixing style creates relentlessly driving sets, with introspective hypnotic texture and organic percussive elements all bound together with an unmistakable groove. He uses expansive soundscapes that reflect his diverse upbringing, drawing inspiration from his home country Singapore, and its unique blend of musical and cultural influences.

Originally from Lille, France, Max’s love for music took a different dimension after
moving to Berlin in 2017. A passionate vinyl collector, Max began DJing with an
old-school selection, heavily influenced by labels such as Primate Recordings and
Planet Rhythm. This foundation shaped his approach, infusing raw and authentic
energy into his sets. Over the years, Max started incorporating more and more
modern-sounding elements to his sets, drawing inspiration from forward-thinking
labels like Token, Blueprint, and Delsin, which now form the core of his sound.
His sets, representing a broad spectrum of techno, are infused with power, groove,
and hypnotism. His distinctive style has earned him to play in renowned venues such
as Tresor.
In addition to his primary focus on techno, Max also explores house music, notably
through his project “VICE/VERSA”, a vinyl-only side project he shares with his
partner Ogazón. This project allows for a dynamic and versatile expression, blending
the deeper grooves of house music with his trademark techno sound.
