An independent label is a production of large independent record companies in the music industry. Independent labels have existed almost from the moment the market for recorded music is created. While the recording industry has continued through the centralized , independent labels were a significant part , although reduced , the market. The 1960s and 1980s are considered the most successful periods for independent labels.
They can play the role of intermediary between the majors and emerging artists.
