It all started in the cursed village of Bibled, where the streets were paved with Lego Feet —
making every step an agonizing, plastic nightmare.

Barker appeared and then Kassem Mosse was there, performing a one-man Live 2012 apocalypse reenactment
for a crowd in Montreal

Meanwhile, a reeking ghost known as Nirvana lurked in alleyways,
selling expired incense sticks that smelled suspiciously like regret.

In the swamp outside town, Pasteur Lappé was screaming "Na Real Sekele Fo’ya!" at passing ducks, and a deranged Minecraft Guy was digging holes to nowhere, convinced he could mine his way to salvation. He explained this to our friend from Japan Shinichi Atobe.

Things got even weirder at sunset.
At the local abandoned mall, Moire hosted her art show Into (Visual Experiments),
which was just a dark room full of broken laser pointers and confused pigeons.

Meanwhile, mad scientists from Dopplereffekt had set up a "pop-up clinic" promising instant Neuroplasticity — which mainly involved hitting customers with mallets.

Farther north, a pair of exiled DJs called the Blondes tried to escape to Poland
but only made it as far as the gas station.

In the corner booth of the sad, empty diner, Soft Metals leaned over and asked, "Do You Remember?"
Nobody did.
Especially not Transllusion, who muttered something about "Memories of Me" before Gerald faceplanting into his soup.

Beneath the diner’s rotten floorboards, The Soft Moon had a thriving colony of Tiny Spiders
running an illegal casino. May JLV rest in peace

Then, without warning, the ground shook —
the bass of 808 State’s Flow Come (AFX Remix) summoned the ancient horror:
The Man With The Red Face, a saxophone-wielding demon who demanded payment in bad vibes.

The townsfolk, realizing their doom was inevitable, formed a grim parade.
"We Walk Together," said Actress, leading the smoke filled procession straight into a pothole.

At the bitter end, as the ground cracked open and flaming pigeons rained from the sky,
a loudspeaker blared the final message:
"You Are Gods," croaked James Holden & Zimpel —
just before everything exploded into a confetti of plastic feet and cheap perfume.

It's impossible to talk about the sound of DjRUM without using the word cinematic. Whatever he does, it has a feeling of grand importance, widescreen elegance and moving emotion that elevates it way above a dance floor soundtrack. Throughout the course of his career, the UK artist has drawn on downtempo, blurred the lines between drum & bass and dubstep and always imbued his music with spoken words snippets, piano and chamber instruments. His Portrait With Firewood album was a real high-water mark in 2018, and last year his latest outing on R&S once again managed to draw on every aspect of electronic music and come up with something all his own. 

His mix for us this week is a perfect ethereal rave that finds plenty of beauty in the sparse rhythms he draws on from the worlds of garage, techno and drum & bass. There is a delicacy and elegance throughout, even when the beats hit hard and fast as they do at the overdriven and manic mid point. The amen breaks come thick and fast after that, but eventually melt away to propulsive ambient soundscapes that suspend you in time and space. Blissful.
