The love shared between musical couple JT Nero and Allison Russell, the songwriting powerhouse that is Birds Of Chicago, seeps into everything they do, from their stunning harmonies to the reflective songs they pen.It is clear in the looks they give each other as they perform; the strong connection and beautiful bond they have.
We were lucky enough to have them join us in Kansas City for our Folk Alliance sessions and to capture these three tracks, including two new songs; ‘Good Dream’ and ‘Remember Wild Horses’. Their songwriting prowess, coupled with an undercurrent of Chicago Soul sensibilities, allow them to rise above the usual singer/songwriter mold.
The crystal clear vocals of Allison Russell paired with JT’s slightly more raspy vocal quality result in beautiful harmonies and duets. The world is always in need of at least a little more love and these two bring it in their music, sharing generously, without holding back. Its been said that love can’t be manufactured and it is most definitely clear here, we are privy to a genuine connection that Birds of Chicago make it so easy to share in.

This week, eclectic Americana multi-instrumentalists Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys make their first visit to eTown’s solar-powered stage to share their forward-looking take on American roots music. Also joining us for the first time is Swedish/Icelandic female folk duo My Bubba who share their sparse and beautiful music, as well as stories about their experiences in circus school and side jobs as locomotive engineers. Lots of great music and conversation with our musical guests, plus we’ll check in with a Colorado-based advocate for bees to hear about their importance to our natural ecosystem.
