I really wanted to hit a froggy vibe for my first STAFFcirc submission, so the central motif I built this track around is a variation of a coqui call that I created with my SoundCanvas. I also figured this was a good excuse to finally use my frog-shaped guiro, so I recorded some live guiro for the first time ever. Other live elements include some acoustic guitar and shaker that I recorded. Other than that there is plenty of rompler shenanigans.

There is also a sample of my dog Charlie barking, that's not frog-related but it felt very fun and percussive and brought a bit of a Rhythm Heaven energy to the track, a series that I adore. I hope you enjoy!

a toad
a long and winding road

not knowing where it goes

a friend
a partner to the end

no matter what's around the bend

that was a joke
frog friendships always seem to go right up in smoke
if you wanna land upon your feet for the next big leap
you gotta go for broke
or you'll land on your back
toad friendships always seem to flip me round and hold me back
I'm focusing on what I want instead of what I lack

if frogs had anniversaries
the celebrations would be cursory
when every day is leap day
there's no time to ponder history
our closeness comes in second
to the space from here to there, you see
no frettin bout the journey cause the destination's first to me

although I've told him no
he follows everywhere I go
to step on my webbed toes

though I almost feel bad
perhaps two frogs could leap down
together upon a lily pad

this isn't right
I've always heard that frogs are meant to travel light
how can you see what's comin up in front of you
if you're lookin left and right
but when I start lookin back
I remember all the times he tried to set me back on track
let's stay together one more year, it might not be so bad

when frogs have anniversaries
they say the celebrations should be cursory
but we intend to celebrate our friendship
even though it may be controversary
a frog and toad in harmony
can stand up to the greatest frog adversity
despite it all we'll have a tiny froggy anniversary
