Like Sun Ra, child of Saturn, outer space has sent another musical talent in the form of ±v​McÇ (or TvMcC in ASCII). Broken, glitched breakbeats and distorted basslines, found sounds and highly processed sounds, I asked ±v​McÇ to send some additional communications as drum and bass. This resulted in a multi-tempo, multi-genre transmission named "Ʌerʘ."

Form Without Lines revisits a reoccurring idea on Pinecone Moonshine by combining Drone with Drum and Bass in way that percussion is interrupted or de-emphasized. 

The EP starts with a distinctly Indidjinous piece where his synths oscillate as if they are vibrating in a mechanical system. The rhythm is steady but the drums filter out, interrupt each other, take full stops to continuously adapt to bass sounds never holding one pattern. 
Parallel emphasizes a single breakbeat in A Dark Abyss. Ambients are more noise than tones and quite low in the mix. Clicks and distortion break up the Drum and Bass elements not allowing the drums to run un-modified for more than a few bars at a time. 
DYL's Horus Eye also has a steady, but slower rhythm driven by one dominant bass hit. Percussion between the downbeat is splintered with clicks and slight hints of Drum and Bass patterns that have been almost hidden in the mix. Subs and tones result from densely manipulated granular snippets of audio. 
K-Chaos uses the jazz double bass samples from Brief and a modulating synth to set the rhythm. Percussion is sparse and a bit unpredictable where and when it is triggered. Trumpet is used in the last two minutes where the piece is just the synth, a few wood clack sounds, and an inharmonic tone sustained through the end. 
Delay Technique returns to more familiar Drum and Bass themes with chopped and delayed Amen break samples. Additional funk samples seed inharmonic, pulsing sounds which also go through enough delays and gates that they blend together as cloudy, noisy drone.

Metro, who started the label Ortem this year, demonstrates how to use repetition in Drum and Bass in a non-mechanical way. These pieces are like Funk or Soul music that is mostly low frequency content. The opening track loops the word “London” through out most of the five minutes, allowing the sound to become an atmospheric or rhythmic element. Most of the energy is in large bass notes. And without any other percussion these few notes and the air between them make up the dominant rhythm. Drum patterns are a mixture of synthetic sounds and found or recorded excerpts. 
The second track, Box, focuses on three large bass kicks and one low pitched, echoing synth. An abrasive, inharmonic sound grows in strength before resetting the track to the original few elements.
Spoon and MHC introduce break beats and even vocal shots. These elements are weaved into the unconventional drums hits and percussion sticking closely to the feel of the other tracks. The title track, Thursday, reveals Metro's use of sampling in a raw way. Dusty vinyl and noise from ungrounded or bad wiring are forward in the mix. The main rhythm sounds like small snippets of a dragging record needle.

With the rising and dropping of a harmony, wisps of filtered breaks, and spread out bass notes, Scale and Acid Lab use their alias Contact Lost to stray away from Drum and Bass on the title track. Building to a peak two and half minutes in, Tea of Sears is a suspenseful introduction of minimal 160 bpm. 

Scale’s Mind Control continues the apprehensive tone adding in two aggressive, lo-fi and noisey drum kits. As the piece progresses and the drums relentlessly push forward, sparse piano and jazz chords add dimension and lightness. 

Acid Lab brings the layered break beats of a late 90’s rolling Drum and Bass track. The foreboding ambiences and delayed sound effects are reminiscent of Science Fiction. The track slows down and starts to unravel like it is falling sideways. 

The last track opens with warm ambient pads and subtle percussion. A sampled drum break speeds up the pace while keeping the tone uplifting. Looping vocals and a synthetic drum break lead out the track in a Footwork fashion.

Shift’s Juju leaps into a vibe like late 90’s dark jazz Tech Step but with large amounts of variation on the rhythm. The percussion is sharp and a rapidly evolving. Double bass and squelching synth notes trade off. This is a high energy piece.
