This musical journey that I have been on for the better part of what seems to be forever has been littered with ups and downs. This is the sum of all those times. Each beat representing a musical notation that has some how shaped where I am today. These musical notations that make up this song some how tell the story of where my head has been on this journey, the people I've met and the places I've seen. I hope that this song reaches you in some way, touches a part of you as music should and that somehow I shared my experiences over these notations.

This track has always been one of my favorite songs, so when Mike released the "At Night, Alone" vocals to download, I had to put my spin on it. I started this in 2017 and though the years have chipped away at it, finally finishing it in summer 2020. Even though it is a three-year work in progress, this song still invokes strong emotions for me.

Mike Posner - Not That Simple (PINEL Remix)

I started the PINEL project to provide myself with an introspective look at the sounds that have helped me use music as an escape from everyday life. While continually producing my music, I took a step back from working on the PINEL project to collaborate with artists on their records.

In 2016 I started the track "Alberta" as an outlet to express a recollection of an incredibly transformative period in my life. Named for an address that I associate with a period of extreme emotional struggle, "Alberta" provides dark underlying textures juxtaposed with uplifting melodies and climactic electronic crescendos. From the organic acoustic guitar to the huge saw chord stacks, I tried to envelop the listener with tension and release to invoke a wide range of emotions.

After a three-year hiatus from the song, I decided that it was time to go ahead and put this out into the world. I hope that you enjoy "Alberta" and that it can serve as a soundtrack to some part, no matter how small, of your journey through life.

In mathematics, Delta refers to the difference between two values or things. While writing “Delta,” I felt a strong sense of changes occurring in my life. As time passed, many aspects of life grew and evolved. 

Subconsciously or not, the dynamics between the sporadic and hectic synth chords juxtaposed with the sparse percussion and the smooth flow of keys, guitar, and ambient chord progressions created a natural tension and release, much like life. As the arrangement evolves, so does the production to invoke a continually growing musical backdrop.

Sometimes you don't know what you have until it's gone. Sometimes it's best to stop and appreciate the beauty in front of you. Sometimes the rest beat, the whitespace, or the silence in a conversation evokes the most significant meaning and depth. Writing "Gardens," I focused on that break in sound. I focused on the beauty a pause in chaos can bring and what a rest beat adds to an arrangement's dynamics.
 
Although "Gardens" combines layered heavy supersaw synths and fast arpeggios, the use of silence is what provides the tension and the song's depth. Through the hard-hitting drums and in your face synths, "Gardens" also shows moments of organic and melodic charm. Uplifting melodies, sweeping acoustic guitars, and airy pads deliver a relaxed musical bed that contrast the driving percussion, hard basslines, and heavy synth chords.
 
"Gardens" intention is to remind us to stop and admire what we have and to live in the now, as that moment is fleeting and we will never have it back. To be cliché, stop and smell the roses once in a while.
