Huge honor for us to welcome DJ Overdose @jayoverdose to our family. He's one of the pillars of the Dutch electro scene. He is a low-key yet vital artist who hails from The Hague but is based in Rotterdam. His unique take on electro oozes the atmospheres of these famous musical cities. Ever since starting out in eighties, he has been looking to cook up a sense of fun, “where the subs are devastating and the beats are raw.” He underpins his work with booming Miami bass and tends not to look outwards across the contemporary landscape, instead he continues to draw on his love of 80s hip hop for inspiration, then skews it through his own lens.

Famously dexterous in the booth, DJ Overdose has well honed skills that make him able to tear up a larger stage or connect with a more intimate crowd. Electro, Dutch electronics, 80’s pop, Kraftwerk and of course Miami bass can all feature and his deserving reputation has taken him to gigs across the US and Canada as well as key events in Europe.

In the studio, Overdose is a master technician on a range of hardware. By now, he speaks his own language through these machines, whether working solo, or in previous collaborations with the likes of Alden Tyrell or Mr. Pauli. As well as under his own name, he works under alases like Dream Disco, HAEX-HRLL, Extranova and Model Man, but never puts out music for the sake of it.

Instead, he has a small but perfectly formed discography that includes mutant electro funk and ghetto disco albums, as well as EPs that touch on sci-fi tinged soundtracks and more dark and fatalistic adventures. They come on cult labels likes Viewlexx, Pinkman, L.I.E.S., Unknown to the Unknown, Creme Organization and his own RotterHague. It is a label that brings him together with artists from around the world for a series of EPs called ‘Where Cities Collide,’ where sonic similarities and stylistic differences are explored and embraced.

Krakow based party series we are radar and szum team up for a night in the one and only Sameheads.

This special night includes a dj set of Unsound’s resident Olivia - known for her unique and deep digged vinyl sets and numerous releases on labels such as Pinkman. Music producer and live performer Chino who has released on labels as Uncanny Valley, Syntetyk… In addition he contributes visually to the scene as a graphic designer and is the author of the poster of this night’s event.

Third Radar’s member Kinzo Chrome will come back to Sameheads to perform his debut LIVE set on an analogue hard ware set up inspired by some Acid and EBM.

And last but not least Szum’s organizer and music producer Charlie playing a Dj set. Come out for some Krakow dungeon vibes and get a taste of the polish dance.

The third artist of this month is a power woman coming from the heart of the Balkans — Sofia, Bulgaria. Growing up in a notoriously volatile and contradictory environment, she developed into a spirited entity with a desire to break the rules. This naturally translates into her approach to music, which aims not to comfort or please the listener but rather to confront and induce certain feelings deep within.

Having made her first serious steps behind the booth just 2Ys ago, she kept the fire burning during lockdown times with a residency at a now-defunct local radio. The monthly show embraced a storyteller’s approach and quickly taught her how to craft eclectic and introspective mixes that eventually paved the road to her own self-discovery.
In the years following after, J-Lost captivated the local scene with her genre-bending sets that switched moods, moved feet, and asked questions with equal power. Dramatic and unconventional, her selection is weaponry loaded with heavy bass lines, tribal rhythms, ancient atmospheres, harsh industrial noises, and wavy synths, fuelled by electro-body grooves and erotic vocals. This creates a sonic space where extreme contrasts and unexpected turns are very welcome, where sinister explosions are followed by gentle melancholy, and vice versa.

Earlier this year, J-Lost joined forces with a like-minded partner — Stefan Alexandrov. The pair gave birth to a new platform (starting as a club night and podcast series) that goes by the name "Escape Route." Their mission is to broaden the scope of the local scene, champion barely-known artists they both admire, and promote escapism from the ordinary.

Just before she heads to Drugstore, Beograd, to celebrate NYE with a b2b performance with Stefan, she drops episode 234:
“This mix is a personal journey that reflects on what 2022 has brought, carries the knowledge and influences collected along the way, and echoes the ongoing world crisis in an effort to amplify the voices of those who can't be heard. It’s a kaleidoscope of moods and represents everything I stand for: it’s spontaneous and bold, in your face, and full of surprises. I wanted to prove that one can play serious, meaningful music and still come up with a fast-paced, banging mix.”

Hailing from Detroit, he remains inspired by the deep electro and techno history of the city and uses that to fuel his work. We all have our own definitions of what Electro means to us as individuals and this series hopes to share those perspectives with the listeners of Dark Science Electro - Over the last ten years, I have hosted tons of guest mixes featuring DJs from every corner of the globe who I’ve asked to give me their interpretation of ‘@DarkScienceElectro’ for their guest mix. For the second installment of ‘Define:Electro’ we have London-based Irish DJ, Gavin Mac Donagh, AKA @Gamadon, who has been DJing for over 20 years and been an avid Electro fan since the 90s. Gamadon started playing Electro out in Vancouver, Canada in 1999 with the Pound Recordings crew under the alias Dex of Hazzard. He has also promoted and DJ’d at several underground electronic music nights in Ireland and Bermuda. He has supported International acts such as The Prodigy, 808 State and Sunil Sharpe and is currently a resident DJ with Irish collective, Basement Project. Gamadon hosts a monthly live 2-hour video broadcast on @TimelineMusic2, beginning in the end of January 2020. The show is called Warehouse Manifesto, the same name as the label run by Gamadon.
