Milan based duo Simone Baratta and Nicolò Chenet are the force behind mysterious DJ outfit Orion. Alongside their principal cognomen, active since 2018, they’ve also banded together with Giegling’s Ateq as Pale Product for further excursions into their sonic universe. As a pair they’ve been largely flying under the radar, but perhaps not for long, their all too danceable sound is a deep, persistent fusion of influences destined for the club (take their residency at Milanese haunt Vitamina for instance). You could add their eponymous label to that too, where a growing number of ‘slow-release’ records attest to their predilection for quality over quantity. Bassiani Podcast 185 is their live set recorded at Horoom mid-September: think intimate and smoke-filled afterhours gatherings and pure camaraderie among a close-knit group of ravers. A high spirited trip across the dancefloor from saturated and dubby ambient to Detroit inclinations, courtesy of this budding techno pairing.

Bassiani invites Orion [live] / Podcast #185

Simone Baratta and Nicolò Chenet’s Orion is back on podcast duties, this time for experimental series Zenaari. The tandem’s dancier inclinations are a little more explored, but here they’re given space to investigate another raft of musical leanings. This one’s quite special, and a good example for what the Zenaari concept is at heart: a cross-genre exploration in sound that pushes the limits of established taste and composition, and above all provokes thought. Loaded with ideas, this foray spans a breadth of references, from Hasselian drones, to creaking melodies, to downtempo Italian crooning, and leaves out hi-tech mixing and glitzy effects in favour of a more raw and bluntly sequential approach to mix building. In truth, the pair have rifled through an eclectic archive of music from their native land and created an extraordinary emotional collage that’s heavy on nostalgia without tipping the scales too far into sentimentality. Affecting, but with the occasional flutter of a bassline as a reminder that this polymath duo’s there pulling the levers. Zenaari Mix 008 is a nonpareil mix from this enigmatic Milanese duo, one that’s sure to leave a mark.

Zenaari Mix 008 - Orion

This summer a big dream came true for me. I got the chance to play at the most beautiful festival, Waking Life, for one of my all time favourite crews, Giegling. It still feels super unreal to me 🤪 Having had the chance to put out this magical 3h journey alongside so many of my musical idols was incredibly overwhelming. What a beautiful Sunday morning this was! 😻 I'm so thankful for this experience and super happy to share the recording of it now. I hope you enjoy listening (back) as much as I did playing! 🙏🏼😊

Orion are no strangers to Delayed and this mix continues their hot streak of amazing releases and mixes. Having just released their incredible “Look At Things” EP on Molly’s Recit de Voyage, they have just blessed us with a mix. Whether on their Orion imprint or Molly’s RDV, one has grown to expect nothing short of spectacular when it comes to Orion’s output, and this mix is no exception.
The Italian duo delivers an hour of their own productions, starting out slow, slowly building up and working through a trip of ambient house and dub techno, eventually closing with a Burial-esque tune.
We’re delighted to regularly feature the Bolognese producers, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us.
