I decided to recreate the tracklist that I played live at the Living Room Johannesburg (Saturday 9 October 2021).
 One of my favourite sunset sets that I have played to date, I hope you enjoy the journey!✨🏜🌅

This was originally played June 18, 2022. Our desert gathering was rained out so we setup by the pool instead. I decided to stop the recording after about an hour because reasons but promised I would recreate the set to share. So here it is :)

Normally, podcasts are easy to do and being motivated, one goes to work in exciting anticipation to let the latest delicacies and accumulated "podcast records" shine.
At 3hrs 33min though, the situation is different. We rummaged deep in the record crate, full of enthusiasm knowing exactly what was being played. Dissatisfied with the result and a musical existential crisis not far away, we reflected and rethought the essence of our music: who are we and what do we want anyway? With detective acumen, we conducted acquisitions for weeks and dove into old and new realms in search of the undefinable. Back to the roots...

Letting yourself drift together, making time an elastic concept. letting yourself go in the endlessness of the moment, far removed from reality.

XYZ and When We Dip present the Selectors series, where we give our family of producers an opportunity to display their prowess behind the decks. Expect unreleased material from across the label collective, as well as classic gems and heady grooves from some of the undergrounds finest heads.

Erdi Irmak is simply one of the most eclectic producers in the modern deep & melodic scene. The Turk has carved his own path, releasing sensational cross-cultural sounds on the likes of Tale & Tone, Amulanga, and Hoomidas. The XYZ faithful will have grown fond of Erdi’s work on the imprint thus far, appearing on each of our Oppo projects and recently released 'Driftwood' along with a set of remixes.  We could not be more excited to welcome him back for this third Selectors Series.

▌I Wie waren die Vorbereitung für den Mix? Woher kamen die Inspirationen?
Christian war für die Trackauswahl zuständig und entwickelte eine erste Vorstellung, welchen Klang unser Podcast bekommen sollte. Seine Idee war es, ein Set zu kreieren, welches einerseits von treibenden, deepen Baselines und andererseits von vielen warmen Sounds lebt. Der Podcast sollte somit ein Kontrast zum heutigen Sound in der Clubszene darstellen - welcher von uns oft als stetig härter, schneller und weniger deep wahrgenommen wird sowie mehr auf ekstatischen Abriss abzielt. 
Wir haben hierbei bewusst mehr Songs mit Vocals als üblich genutzt und auch ältere Songs ausgewählt, die für uns sinnbildlich für eine Zeit stehen, in der Social Media für Musiker:innen noch nicht diese immense Rolle eingenommen hatte und es in Clubs noch mehr Raum für tiefere, zartere Klänge gab.

▌II Hat sich deine Art und Weise und vielleicht auch dein Stil Musik zu machen geändert?
Über die Jahre haben wir uns musikalisch mehr aus dem Downtempo herausbewegt und fühlen uns mittlerweile im Midtempo-Bereich am wohlsten. Dabei darf es gern auch ein bisschen progressiver als früher sein. Dennoch bleibt unsere Vorliebe für deepe, melancholisch anhauchende Klänge bestehen. Diese Note ist weiterhin nahezu in jedem Set von uns herauszuhören. Insbesondere der vermehrte Einsatz von Pads und Synthesizern hat unseren Sound seit der Pandemie verändert. Der Fokus liegt nicht mehr rein auf dem Klavier oder E-Piano, sondern auf Diversität. Wir denken, dass unser Stil somit noch ausgewogener klingt.

▌III Welcher Track ist für dich ganz besonders in deinem Set?
Matthew Herbert - It's Only (DJ Koze Remix) aus dem Jahr 2012 stellt für uns eine ganz besondere Nummer dar, die uns damals mehr oder minder das Tor in deepe, melodisch verspulte und dennoch tanzbare Musik geöffnet hat. Die Stimme von Dani Siciliano verzaubert uns auch über 10 Jahre später noch immer und versprüht eine Mischung aus Melancholie und Glanz vergangener Tage.
