Whether it’s Afro, Amapiano, Baile Funk, UK Garage, Jersey or Bubbling; each set will bring a new vibe according to her own mood. When not behind the decks, she works as a creative director for Dutch recordlabel Top Notch. Which is why she also makes sure to occasionally show her love for Dutch HipHop in her sets. With each set she hopes to bring joy to the people that are listening. Dancing and having fun are key and everybody is welcome to join!

Harbinmoths has been constantly active in the Estonian underground techno scene since 2020. He picked up the groove and mixing skills very quickly thanks to his childhood piano studies and singing in the church choir every Sunday. This has been a great benefit to his musical hearing and he knows how to use it – his constantly changing selection of tracks goes through a pretty tough check before being put on the flash drive. On the selection you will hear deep and solid grooves, driving basslines and every once and then some rave and even a few melodies, but the main focus stays always on the 4/4 rhythm which keeps him (and you) going. If you want to know what fast modern techno this year sounds like you should catch Harbinmoths playing for sure.

Finally, Rotterdam-based Samira closes things off. As a resident DJ at Operator she carved out a space for bleak machine-funk electro and shadowy wave sounds. This one-hour set is marked by that same distinct, darker palette, keeping it hard and danceable from start to finish.

Psychedelic rock in Southeast Asia emerged in the 1960s and 70s, in post-colonial Cambodia and surrounding countries during the Vietnam war era. It is characterized by its fusion of Western surf -, blues -and psychedelic rock with local folk traditional music. This resulted in unique sounds from countries like Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand. Where the US psychedelic era was soundtracked by bands like Jefferson Airplane and The Doors, Cambodia had Sinn Sisamouth, Ros Serey Sothea, and Pan Ron. Referred to by some as the “golden era” of Cambodia, it met an unfortunate end when the Khmer Rouge took control over the country in 1975. During its four-year reign of terror, traces of Cambodia's psychedelic fling would be all but smashed: the music banned, recordings destroyed, and an artistic community marched with millions of others to the killing fields. Fortunately, throughout the 1990’s and later, a lot of long-lost tapes and recordings have been recovered; keeping alive the memory of a special era of music and culture in the area.

Wayki is a Taiwanese-American artist based in New York City, and the curator behind the New Roots mix series and Pure People events, which are both dedicated to amplifying East and Southeast Asian artists across the global underground. His sound leans into introspective, cathartic journeys, weaving ambient layers, organic textures, and driving melodies into powerful emotional moments.

For this episode, “Mangetsu” (満月 full moon), Wayki crafts a story of life told when the moon is at its brightest. Raw instrumentals and percussive textures spark a slow-burning fire, while narrators step forward one by one, sharing fragments of wisdom from different corners of the world. For this month's Lunch__Breaks show I've invited Amsterdam based multidisciplinary artist Ivana Dukic. Ivana about the first record: "The first track is Impressions (Take 1) from John Coltrane's "Both Directions at Once: The Lost Album," which was released in 2018. The original session, recorded in 1963, included four different takes of the song, and the deluxe edition of the album features three of them as bonus tracks. We will hear Impressions (Take 3) at the very end of the show.

Both Directions at Once was recorded in Van Gelder Studio in New Jersey on March 6, 1963, by saxophonist John Coltrane and his Quartet: double bassist Jimmy Garrison, drummer Elvin Jones and pianist McCoy Tyner. The session took place on the last day of a two-week stint at Birdland. The next day, the group would join singer Johnny Hartman for the recording of John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman.
To cut down on storage space, Impulse! Records destroyed the master tape, and the recording was lost for decades. The seven tracks on Both Directions survived as a copy Coltrane gave to his first wife, Juanita Naima. Van Gelder made a separate copy for Coltrane to listen to at home. In 2005, after the Guernsey's auction house announced plans to sell Coltrane-related artefacts, the record company intervened to acquire the tapes. Coltrane's son Ravi and studio executive Ken Druker assembled the final album with liner notes written by Ashley Kahn.

"Both Directions at Once" captures the John Coltrane Quartet at a crucial period, bridging his work with standards and new, exploratory directions. The album was recorded on a single day in March 1963, between the recording sessions for John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman , which we will also hear in the show, and the start of the sessions for A Love Supreme.

The album's title came from a recollection by Wayne Shorter, who stated that at one point, Coltrane told him that what he was attempting to achieve musically was "starting a sentence in the middle, and then going to the beginning and the end of it at the same time... both directions at once."

After recent trips back to China, this one hour mix became a quiet end of year reflection. Curated entirely with Chinese underground musicians, it feels intimate and personal, like revisiting childhood stories over tea, sitting with friends or family, letting time soften. Walking through her hometown felt slightly unreal, as memories surfaced both painful and sweet, familiar yet distant, like a dream that lingers.
